Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Howdy there folkses... [sip]
So I suppose everybody's off watching EE, eh? [snif]
Cool! I'd like that.
Actually, with some gentle... ok, some really brutal editing, I think it might be publishable. Or at least, rejectable - we need to start collecting rejection slips, girl!
You really think so? Hm...I wouldn't mind a rejection slip, just to say I tried! Heh...
I wouldn't know where to start. But it would be fun if we both started at least attempting to get published at the same time, wouldn't it?
Not me!
*sniff*
No rental places have it, and I can't buy it.
However, it's looking like Dad is willing to pay part of the cost for us to buy it for a certain sister who-is-not-currently-lurking for Christmas. So if nothing else, I will hopefully see it then!
If no one backs out of the deal, that is.
Honestly, yes, it's better than most of what's out there. I'm unfortunately not sure precisely where you should edit. Tighten things up, certainly, and make some of it less - obvious is not the right word. Less foreshadowed, maybe.
Ok, we'll make a deal: I'll try to get something ready for publishing (not this story; this one's got to be perfect) if you do the same...
*blubber*sniff*
Frodo is just now saying goodbye to the lads.
PJ did a marvelous job.
Deal! I have no idea how to go about it, as I've said...but we can share what we find out on the subject, no?
And I'll keep your suggestions in mind when I start into serious editing. I won't have time to really start hacking it apart before Christmas, of course, but there's nothing that says I have to cast it aside after that.
Or I may start another story. Dunno! But in any case, here's extending a cyber handshake on our mutual goal! ;-)
You got it!
There are a lot of steps involved, but a good rule of thumb is - figure out who publishes the sort of story you write, and submit it there. So I might eventually try to get a story published with Del Rey or Baen, while your story might be more likely with Scholastic.
Isn't Scholastic all PCized anymore, though? I dunno if they'd accept anything with intact families and kids hanging out unsupervised with older ladies...and enjoying it. Heh...but maybe I'm just bein' cynical.
Hm...I'm betting my brother that works for Ignatius Press could tell me what companies to check into...if he'll give me the time of day with regards to my writing.
*sigh*
Well, I'm pretty sure they're the American publishers of Harry Potter, and that's not real PC, is it?
Ask your brother... connections don't hurt... even if you ask him without saying why you want to know.
Next time you get to the Borders, spend ten minutes in the kids' section, looking at publishers' names.
Yeah, but I'm still at TTT. My ROTKEE hasn't made it yet.
Meanwhile...
And the Borders idea is a good one. I also remember my Dad used to have a book called something boring like The Writer's Digest that listed names and addresses of publishing companies along with what kind of books they handled...also had tips on getting published.
I wonder if they still make that book?
Bummer, dude... :-)
There's a series called, IIRC, "Writer's Market" that has volumes aimed at most major genres. Probably a version for the children's market, too. Definitely should be at Borders.
Mmm...excuses to go to Borders...
Hehehe... see... I like the way you think.
Aren't we supposed to move hole by now?
Shhhhh! If we're very, very quiet, maybe we can stay put for a few more days!
Barring unforeseen circumstances, I'm gonna finish this tomorrow. Wow...what will I do with myself after this?
Ok... shhh...
Darn it, I need my background music! I miss all the tracks that got lost in the Great Hard Drive failure. All I have now is Christmas music and J-Pop, and what I want is "Third Verse" by Smalltown Poets. Particularly the song "The Lust, the Flesh, the Eyes and the Pride of Life" because it fits my story right about now.
Hmm... write the sequel! Write something else! Edit this one... or if I get my act together, read through mine...
LOL!
Okayyy...
Wish I could help ya, but mostly what I'm listening to today is weird Celtic stuff with bagpipes. Good stuff, though.
