The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I remember when Steve asked me...we were driving back from Minnesota on I-35, had just crossed into Texas on our way back to Austin. I was thinking "This is it...four years I've been with this guy...this is it. I'm outta here. Gonna see the world, gonna move to Alaska."

Then he asked me.

Needless to say, all my plans instantly changed.

Comes of being a Jeopardy whiz, I guess, right?

"What is December 13th?"

I think he had a pretty good clue the axe was fixin' to fall. I don't know how though. It never mattered after that.

I didn't fart around though..we got married 6 months later.

I still wish we'd just gone ahead and got married like the next week. Like I say, we'd been together off and on, mostly on, for four years.

I don't like all that messy planning. I just need to find someone who will elope.

Heh...I wouldn't expect it to be remembered years from now.

March 28, 1986.

Good Friday.

The Jefferson Mermorial.

Sunset.

Cherry Blossoms.

She was wearing navy and white.

Any more questions?

Bah! All that tedious romantic stuff. What is wrong with emailing plane tickets for eloping and a diamond catalog to pick one out? Dives for cover...

OK, OK...

But for bonus points...but do you remember the date when you first asked her out?

That does sound vey romantic, BTW! You sure you're a dwarf? ;-)

Before our first was born, SSQ made a 'sidecar' for our bed, that was enclosed on three sides, but open to, and at the same level as our bed, and if the baby rolled over, the only place he could go was onto our bed. They were so little at that point, they didn't go much of anywhere.

I'd nurse Paul, put him down in the sidecar, and when he woke up in the night to eat, I'd just pull him over to me, and start him nursing. When he woke again, I'd sit up, nurse him on the other side, change his diaper and lay him back down. He'd sleep through the rest of the night so peacefully.

We kept each baby in the sidecar at night until they started sleeping from midnight til 6 am. Usually they were about 2 to 3 months old at that point. Then they'd go in their cribs at night, and I'd get up and rock them while I nursed them. Usually both of us would fall asleep for a bit, then I'd nurse them a little more, change them and put them back down.

I loved nursing my babies, and they were all very healthy when little, and still are! The only exception was David, who had successive ear infections when he was three because I'd made the mistake of putting him in pre-school because there were NO other kids his age in our neighborhood. After that year, he grew out of that, and has been pretty healthy since.

Or settle for cake in the church hall as a reception.

My brother's wedding is already giving me nightmares, and I'm barely involved - not at ALL involved in the planning! She's the last kid in a family that has always done big weddings...not big as in expensive and all, but big.

*shudder*

I'm kinda wishing I wasn't going, almost.
