The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sounds like a great day.

We did four shows today. Most went pretty well.

I don't know if I mentioned, but the show opens up with downtown Richmond today (and goes to flashbacks of the 20s, 50s and 70s). But downtown is basically a construction zone. So in the opening I'm a construction worker (there are 8 of us).

All of this is to say that my Hobbit Hole Knife has been clipped to my tool belt for every performance.

Wow, what are you going to do with all your free time once the shows are over?

Rehearsals for next year start January 2. Just kidding.

We'll do a lot of Christmas stuff. It'll be good to have the time back. At the same time I'll miss this year's show. It's been great. I don't always feel that way. Some years you just can't wait for it to be over. This isn't one of those years. I'll be a little sad tomorrow night.

That's good. Time to get yourself in the Christmas mood...

I realized today that it's two weeks until Christmas. It doesn't feel like that. I've never felt less Christmasy, and it's got to be because I'm away from the family.

Sure, it's not fancy, but it gets the job done. Cheap.

Buy a box of inexpensive color markers and 'decorate' the boxes to suit the recipient!

Steve went to the Sears supply and got a new igniter...worked like a charm. Cost $60.

As Red Green would say, "Men, if the ladies don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy". Looks like you got lucky on BOTH counts! (as did I)

Dr. Atkin's ghost has been haunting me ever since.

Tee hee. Clare and I just got back from Boston. We went to a concert of a group singing Medieval Polyphony; sounded like the angels! On the way back we stopped at Dunkin Donuts. Got a dozen donuts, she got a Garlic bagel and I got a Harvest Bagel. It had sunflower seeds, bits of dried apple and dried cranberries in it. Scrumpdilyicious!!

Um... yeah... that would work if I had the artistic ability of a three-year-old. But I don't. I can't even draw simple shapes.

Vey sad, indeed. People mock my drawing, when I'm trying to do a UML diagram for a group project or briefly sketch out a code plan. Oh well.

Which is why I work at my true art, writing. And that gets better all the time.

*yawn*

I'mup I'mup. Why, I dunno - I can sleep in today! And I didn't go to bed until after midnight! But here I am...

Gonna go get ready for church. Might as well go to the eight o'clock Mass, since I'm awake.

Pretty picture, by the way!
