The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Gone to bed?

I need to write something. I just am not interested in any of my current half-written stories. I reeaaally want to write a quick short story, but I haven't got a plot. Hmmm...

Writing. And kinda sorta keeping an eye on the other thread.

Geesh I want this story done! I want to work on something less juvenile next. I have several ideas that are begging to be written.

I also want a nice small laptop that can be lugged around, or one of those things I mentioned on the thread earlier. JUST for writing, and wouldn't have to do anything else.

But wanting doesn't exactly accomplish much!

If wishes were fishes, we'd all be drowned, that's what my dad says. But I know what you mean...

Maybe I can work on this one story I sort of started back in October.

The one with the soldier?

I'd only heard the older saying...if wishes were horses then beggars would ride...but I kinda like your dad's. ;-)

Yeah, my dad's kind of odd sometimes, but you have to admit it makes sense when you think about human nature.

Bleah. Read over the story and have no interest in writing more. Ok, what else have I got?

we (me'n thefamily) jest got back a little while ago from St Louis... we wuz on a mission trip to a church/mission in one of the "depressed" neighberhoods...

about 24 (including kidz) went in a church bus... took 50 hams and 25 new bicycles...

we assembled thebikes with thekids that were receiving 'em... they took an active part in puttin' 'em t'gether so's they can tighten 'em up when things inevitably get loose...

wuzzagoodday...long but good...

I think maybe I'll work on my novel. If I can finish this, the umpteenth work-through of the story, I can put it aside for a year or so and maybe come back when I'm ready.

Had a flash of insight into what exactly I'm writing about in most of my stories, but it doesn't really help.

This is your big novel that you've been working on for a long time?

I'd like to read it someday!

I'm hoping to get it finished (this version) sometime in the next few months, and then yes, I'd like you to read it. It's a very complicated story that I am not telling right. But if I can just get it out, all the way out, once.... I've got 50k, and it'll probably take another 50 to finish, and I know there are some scenes that I just can't write yet. But I'm getting better. This version is better than the last one.

Practice makes perfect, no? ;-)

I love the complexity of your stories. Circles within circles. That's something I don't know if I'll ever be able to do. But the more I do write, the easier the ideas seem to come.

To: RosieCotton

Huh... I guess it's hard for me to see my own stories as complex. This one is, yes, which is why it's so hard, also it's about redemption and things and I can't handle the religious aspect yet.

Maybe I'm just devious. I like your writing, though; you don't try to decieve your reader.

Ooh...religious aspect as well? Sounds intriguing. I seriously would like to incorporate something like that in a future story...write an allegory, even. But I feel so...inadequate when I think of doing anything like that.

Well, it's after eleven, and I only got in 1200 words today, but I really should get to bed.

I should also probably send you at least a portion of what I have if I'm gonna force you to beta read...

What format should I do that in, BTW?

Any format works. I prefer Word doc or at least rtf to plain text. You've got my email, right?

Saw your letter before the post got pulled... nice work!

Thanks. I've printed cards with the web address to go as inserts into Christmas cards we mail.

(two more shows! two more shows!)

Maybe I think it is so funny because I came out on top.

Hey...this is a family thread...

Yeah, I think so. I'll send you what I've got so far...hope that's OK.

There's one chapter that's really embarassing, but you'll probably recognize it when you get to it, so...just realize what's there is filler, basically.

I'll send it right now, and then I'm really gonna go to bed! Honest!
