The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

This year's wrapping supplies:

One roll brown paper, $2.
One roll clear packing tape, $2.
One black permanent marker.

Sure, it's not fancy, but it gets the job done. Cheap.

Well, the one I saw was a bit larger than an average balcony, however, with suitable reduction in scale, there is no reason why it would not be effective (an quiet too).

Cheers for the plumbing purchase and installation but sorry it still leaks. My limited experience seems to parallel yours. Use more plumbers tape? or plumbers joint compound? The compound needs a set up period IRRC. Good luck.

Would you put plumbers joint compound on threads? Suppose sometime in the future that fixture would need to be removed. Could you do it with joint compound on there?

OT - I believe so, it's the goop that predated plumbers tape. It's not an epoxy. Needless to say, read the particulars on the package.

A cheater bar, say three feet long, has proved immensely handy when plumbing chores need to be done. I got a 2"D pipe I slide over the pipe wrench handle.

Grunting while turning seems to help the recaliterant fixture turn loose. :-)

HHmmmm....the plumbers putty package doesn't say anything about a cure time.

I'm waiting a while to see if a leak develops.

So far, so good. Dare I try laundry tonight?

Houston, I have an oven!

Steve went to the Sears supply and got a new igniter...worked like a charm. Cost $60.

I think I have a washer. Guess I should try it right now....no leaks in the past hour so maybe I've got it.

Yay!

I just got back. Had Popeyes' chicken and took a friend to Krispy Kreme. Mmm... civilization...

I just got back. We went to a Borders, among other things.

I found far more presents for me than I did for others...oops.

Only bought two, though. A bar of dark chocolate and a journal.

Also got a few small presents for the kids...not many, though. Ugh...I'm not good at shopping.

Sounds good to me; go for it. Congrats. Going to the local HS concert tonight with some old friends, I think a grandchild is playing is the band/orchestra/ensemble.

Two thumbs up for Steve's repair work. Well, have you decided what you're going to bake tonight?

Loooovely... What'd you get for the kiddoes? I'm working on getting my family's presents wrapped up.

Yeah, we drove fifty miles for Popeyes'. It was an end-of-semester celebration. That's the first I've had in probably two years.

Didn't get much of anything exciting. Got Teresa a kit for making window clings - mostly you color 'em. They have ones for various holidays and seasons. Sounds dumb, but she'll like it.

If she likes it, it's not dumb. Remember that!

Doesn't hurt that it was cheap! ;-) Inexpensive, I mean.

In the bargain section at Borders.

Man, I love that place. Coulda spent a lot more time there. But I'm too cheap to buy most books there - I know I can get 'em used for less.

I'm baking a cake, as I type! :-)

Took Steve 10 minutes to fix it, once we got home.
