The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I don't have the energy for that. That happened to my brother-in-law (wife's sisters husband). His second wife left him for a Muslim she met on the internet.

She was raised orthodox Jew.

I asked the Mods to pull the link for our Christmas letter. I'd rather not have it all out in the open here.

If you'd like to read it, let me know and I'll send the link.

"...Going to do TTTEE sometime this weekend"

Meanwhile....

I thought PJ&Co. solved one of the problems I had reading the book in my youth; the storylines split and unless one is taking good notes one can lose the chronology..."so did everyone else just go take a nap, or what?"

I had the same problem with Treasure Island...

OTOH, I'm the barbarian heretic who thought PJ/Eowyn's "I am No Man!" was viscerally satisfying...

When you hit the Wrong Nail with a hammer, do you say:

"Alas, it is split and the red gore runs. Accursed be this tool; I shall leave it on the floor whilst I go to the houses of healing."

Or do you say:

"FFFFFFFFFFFFFF...
"...uuuuuuuuuuuuuu..."
"...dge!"

Good Morning, Sleepies!

It's called an American flat bow, but I've been following, with much specific advice and help from Osage, a plan on Ferret's website...am presuming that the particular version may be Ferret's design? I wouldn't have been able to do it right without Osage's help. 'Course, that's making the assumption that I'm doing it right.

Morning everyone, briefly.

Andy M. Stewart. Doesn't matter WHAT he sings, it makes me alternately tear up and wanna yell 'cause it's so good. ;-) Heh...yeah, I'm odd. I especially like the Silly Wizard songs that have him. His own CDs frequently have members of Silly Wizard, but it's not quite the same.

Manus Lunny sings on some of Andy's CDs, but I don't care for him as much.

And then there's Dougie MacLean - totally, totally different, but I like his stuff, too!

Also like Old Blind Dogs' lead singer...though their music is mostly really traditional Scottish ballads...and while traditional Irish ballads all seem to be about drinking and mourning, Scots ballads are about sneaking in girls' bedroom windows at night when her Dad isn't looking...

And the Wolfstone CDs that have Ivan Drever as the lead singer (not all do) are awesome too.

Wayyyyy more info than you wanted, right? Andy's the best, though.

Gidget did the most hilarious thing last night. I don't think I can adequately paint the picture, but ecurbh and I were snuggling in bed, and Gidget was acting weird walking in and out of the bedroom, banging her tail on the walls. Sometimes she likes to crawl up on the bottom corner of the bed, so I called her up.

She leaped up onto the bed and onto us, and wedged herself right down between us, laid down and physicially started trying to PUSH ecurbh out of bed with her feet. I was LMAO. He had to get out of bed and whack her with a pillow to get her to leave, and she still acted weird and slept on the floor in there instead of on the couch like she usually does.

'Morning!

There's nothing quite like grits, sausage, eggs, and biscotti for breakfast.

Saw your letter before the post got pulled... nice work!

I really enjoy doing the online newsletter we post for family and friends. It's a fun way to keep in touch.

I'm suddenly glad all we had to worry about was MoveOn, MooreOn, CBS, ABS, NBS and NPR.

I saw your letter before it got pulled - nice job, great pics. My family keeps threatening to do one of those but we figure everyone would get bored before they even got to the bothers...

Ugh. Got to go give a presentation this morning, like half the rest of my class that drew the short straw. Then my friends and I are going to Denver. We're going to Denver for Popeye's Chicken, actually.

You are so cool to make all these exotic (to me, anyway) weapons; Ferret bows, atl-atls, potato guns! Are your kids getting a chance to try out your new toys?

I can never get enough info on cool Celtic singers! I love the song (and I have no idea if I'm spelling it correctly, but this is what it sounds like)"Broom of the Cowdenowles". I first heard Silly Wizard's music on the Folk Show on WHYY in Philly in the mid 80's when we lived in NJ.

I also used to listen to "The Thistle and Shamrock" every week. I love Fiona Ritchie's voice. I haven't heard it since we moved here because I don't think any of the major public radio stations carry it. I'll have to look more closely.

Another "Andy" that I like is Andy Irvine who was a singer for an Irish band whose name I'm not sure about right now; was it Planksty? The group did a version of "Stewball" that had a driving beat and was fun, and another called "Sailing to America".

You've piqued my interest, so I'm going to have to check out Green Linnet records. You've done it now!!!
