The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That's 'big tent' forum, interesting format as well. Check out Tradgang and Stickbow for a more focused forum. Stickbow has a 'self-bow' forum. Tradgang is all traditional as well. You can tell the self bow types by name after awhile.

Well, I'm happy for you!

I'm still trying to hit 2000 for today. I only wrote a thousand yesterday...need to get back on track!

And listening to a Scottish singer whose voice I just love. It's an acquired taste, but ohhh I do like him now! Almost too much.

The osage trees were planted as hedgerows throughout the midwest before barbed wire became so popular. Hence the Hedge reference. Still the hedge rows linger on until bigger fields or shopping centers and subdivisions call for their removal.
If you feel like growing your own, the Missouri Department of Conservation nursery in Licking MO sells small osage trees.

Good luck...

I really do intend to ship you some "Fruits Basket". Since you'll have to send 'em back anyway, maybe I'll include a couple books of manga so you can see what it's all about - it's pretty light, so the shipping should be minimal.

Only 70 words now.

Fruits Basket is on DVD, right?

I really love what music I've heard from that. Vey nice.

This guy affects me like autumn does.

Time-lag symptoms, almost.

DVD, yes. I don't do VHS, and dvd means if I loan it to stup - I mean ignorant people, they can watch the subtitles.

It's a very good deal, since the whole series is on four disks. Escaflowne, which is the same length, comes on eight disks and so costs almost twice as much.

Someday I'd like to have Escaflowne...if only because there are so many nice memories associated with it.

*sniff*

I miss Entmoot!

Great, now I've got Gregorian Chanting Warrior Monks as my earworm.

Next Entmoot will be just as good... you wait... we'll both make it somehow...

Here's the plan:

If all else fails, hijack a cheese truck and ride it to the Ozarks. Once you're there, signal for us by setting something on fire. Preferably a liberal. Then we'll come get you.

Ah. This plan, I like.

Does it have to be a cheese truck, though?

Is there a moose involved?

Any kind of truck you like. One simply does not hear of many cheese truck hijackings, so it would not be expected.

Alternatively, travel across the country, playing music on street corners for food and gas money. This works best if you bring bothers along to help out.

Man, I sure wish the second plan would work...

Unfortunately I doubt we could make enough to pay for everything. And I may not have enough vacation time to drive.

But...it just seems like it'd be such an interesting adventure!

Catch is that busking is really frowned on in some states, and in some places you have to have a license (!) to do that.

Tell sibs they can come along if they chip in gas money. It's summer, so take tents and camp out at campgrounds - would that actually be cheaper? Or just all share one room. Surely you wouldn't need more than one night in a hotel each way...

I am also considering driving, since my car gets such great mileage, but I could make it to g'nad's in a single day.

It appeals to me in a lot of ways...and yes, camping would be cheaper normally. It's just that many of us may not have much vacation time left due to the wedding and all, so we'll have to see!

I think it would take two full days to drive there, depending on how many drivers we had and how much traffic we hit. But I dunno how dependable my vehicle is, and none of us are experienced in driving in anything but rural conditions. I'd like to do a road trip, and if it meant the difference between being able to go and not being able to go...well, that's a no-brainer.
