The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

And there...just passed 50k in Teresa's story.

Nice hitting a milestone! Should give me some motivation...I hope.

They've reached the end of the quest part of the story - they think. They still have another task, another setback, and then I have to wrap everything up. Hope I can do it in 10k, but we'll see.

Nice pictures of Sonya! She looks great! Vey healthy!

You won't believe what happened today...it is such a small world (after all!)

One of the ladies from our homeschool group invited us over to spend the afternoon, so her son could play with my boys and so she could have someone to visit with! The kids were playing and we were having a nice chat over lemonade when guess what we hear...thunk thunk thunk! The jedis and I both shreiked "HELICOPTER!" and I leapt up from the couch and the boys and I dashed for the front door WHICH WAS LOCKED and I didn't get out in time to wave, but got out in time to see a Black Hawk swooping overheard toward our house (a couple of miles away)!

Needless to say, our hostess was slightly startled by the display and I had some 'splainin' to do. So I explained it all, we talked about it for a long time, I even showed her the letter I wrote to them (which I posted here in the Hole) and the letter with the patch and the picture of my family with the Black Hawk. I told her about the guy that knocked on our door and invited us to tour the unit. She seemed impressed and actually became emotional at one point!

Then she said "You know, my parents live next to a guy that's part of the Army National Guard...I believe he said he WORKS on Black Hawks...I'll ask him if he saw your letter!" I said "It's bound to be with this same unit, they are the only ones that are in this area...do your parents live here in Tulsa?" She said "Yes, they don't live too far from you..." then she mentioned the guy's name and it was the same guy that knocked on my door and invited us to the ARNG!

I nearly died! I said "See! Now you can ask him and he'll verify that I'm telling the truth!"

She's gonna ask him about it and tell him about how we dashed out of her house!

It was so saaaad!

I think you'll like the ending, though. What a good show. I need another tearjerker like that, or Fruits Basket.

VEY small world, 2J.

Speaking of small worlds, I got a freepmail today from Old Sarge, who got one of our HH knives by way of Flying Dutchman. I thought I'd ping him to here, since he said he wanted to say thanks.

In the meantime, thank YOU, Old Sarge, for your service and patriotism.

Yeah, that sure did nothing good for my breathing and optical focus. It has to be right up there with my top couple fav anime endings for choke-up factor.

Yeah, Fruits Basket is right up there for good endings.

My view: if you don't tear up somewhere in the last two episodes of Fruits Basket - and at least once in the first 24 eps - you've got something wrong with you.

Heck, the manga can get me teary. I love good shoujo anime... all right, so some shonen gets me weepy too. I would have cried after episode 50 of Fullmetal Alchemist if I wasn't so busy being sure a certain character wasn't really dead.

Ya know what's gotten me closest to choking up, though?

When Takuto broke the news as to who he really was and there was that one quick scene where Wakouji just about falls to his knees 'cause he doesn't want to believe it's true...that got me. I suppose it's because, especially having been in the military, I've had friends who at the time were extremely close...but who I've really lost touch with for one reason or another. I could see something like that happening. It would be devastating.

Awww... yes... that was something. Poor guys. (There could also be some guilt involved. Wakouji might blame himself for Takuto's suicide - in the manga, there's an implication that that's why he doesn't force Mitsuki to have surgery.)

I am desperately trying to finish, with my partners, our project to show tomorrow. Also rewriting a paper and working on a PowerPoint presentation. I need to start studying for finals, too.

Can I have what you're having? I need some...

Sure... have all you want. though... I always found that if ya study drunk, you gotta take the test drunk too, to remember anything.
