Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I just shipped off a small batch of Hobbit Hole knives to g'nad's Marine brothers in Bagdhad. During the next week, our knives will also go out to Jerry in Djibouti, a Navy FA-18 SuperHornet maintenance group, and assorted other GIs and freepers.
One problem with Marines is the "don't send one to me, send it all to the troops" attitude. While an admirable attitude, the Hobbit Hole strives to serve all our troops, even the ossifers. So, for Col Gangster and Cpt String, we have these little goodies:

Thank you! I really haven't. But I had a recipe... pies just weren't the dessert of choice at my house, that's all. And at Thanksgiving Mom usually made the pies two days early while I was at work.
I'm just so tickled!

It's good because Steve is coming home and the snow is beautiful. I just can't get all warm and fuzzy feelings about cold weather.
Trying to convince my wife to move to Florida but she says all the kids and grand kids are around here.
I tell her that's an argument in MY favor (Just kidding though)

You done good, girl. It's a beautiful pie!
It's kinda sacriligious, me being from the South and all, but I don't really like Pecan Pie that much. It is WAY TOO sweet for me; it hurts my teeth! I can eat a really small sliver, and that's about it. What I DO like are the little Pecan Tassies my Mama used to make, and that I've made before. The crust is made from flour, cream cheese and butter, then pressed into little cupcake tins. They're baked a little, then the Pecan Pie mixture is put in them. Since there is not a lot of filling, it's not so sickly sweet.
I like Sweet Potato pie, with just a splash of bourbon in the mixture. ;o)

Pecan pies are my once-a-year delight. It's the only pie I really like. Sweet potato pie? That sounds very Southern?

Sweet potato pie? That sounds very Southern?Oh yeah! Actually, I make a Sweet Potato Souffle that is great because when you eat it cold as leftovers, it's just like eating the pie, but without the fatty, starchy crust!
