The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sounds nice... sigh... there's still half of me that's tempted to just get in the car and head east. Oh well.

Van-sama is back! And the windshield is alllll shiny. Hopefully it works as well as the original...seems like I've heard nightmare tales of replacement windshields leaking.

I think I may finish NaNo today! I've been writing like crazy. Crap, of course...but copious quantities.

Oh, good for you! I don't think I'll finish today, but surely by the weekend.

Congrats on Van-sama! Hope he's feeling all better... and passes inspection. Did I tell you Colorado doesn't inspect cars?

Yes, you did.

Did I tell you I hate you? ;-)

Heh..but at least our registration and all that is pretty cheap. And truthfully, inspection for cars that aren't rattletraps is more of a nuisance than an expense. It's usually about fifteen dollars...not horribly bad.

And it turns out I actually have until the END of next month, not until the first. I was confused, as usual. So I can put it off just a bit.

Oh, whew. Glad to hear that.

You know... you could always move out here... I know, I know. Won't bring it up for another month or so.

Sigh. Am feeling a little... melancholy, I guess, over not getting home for Thanksgiving.

Holidays away from home are never easy.

Even when you have a place to go and lots of friends around...it's not the same thing. And this is really your first holiday without them, isn't it?

So you have a right to feel melancholy.

Yep. It helps that I'm going home in a month, but... well, you know, it's not the same.

I think I'm going to leave now... sigh...

I'm home. Stopped by the bookstore, just looking, no touching. I'm going to make the pecan pie in a minute.

Just got back from seeing National Treasure. Mmmm Sean Bean.... It was a fun movie. Prolly go back over the weekend with SSQ to see it.

Hey Rose, We saw the trailer for the new Vin Diesel movie coming out in the Spring called The Pacifier. It looks to be hilarious! I'll definitely see that one on the big screen.

I have yet to go to the grocery for crusts...maybe after dinner at seven or so when it's likely to be sort of calmer. I doubt it'll ever be really quiet and not crowded today...but it should at least be possible to park!

My brother from CA (the older one) called and talked for an hour, so I haven't done any more writing.

I did some work on my research paper... need to do some programming tonight, too. Now I think I shall cook.

I haven't had a real meal all day, and I'm not sure I'll have one for dinner, either. Gonna do a lot of cooking tomorrow.

But I do want to bake those pies tonight if at all possible! I already attempted transporting hot pies once before (last year), and it was NOT pretty.

Gah, I need to clean more often. Had to wash my kitchen. Now maybe I can cook. Maybe.

Yes, exactly, Black Point is near Cutler Ridge, east of it, on SW 87th Ave. Was completely wrecked by Andrew, btw, there was an 18 ft storm surge there...hundreds of boats totalled, along with all the buildings...mangroves all stripped and chewed up.

Sorry not to have answered last night, had gone to sleep.

Did you find a good pecan pie recipe?

I may go internet hunting. The one on the corn syrup bottle just doesn't look complete somehow...

998 words!

The one I've got is basically the same as the one on the Karo bottle. I think it's what Mom makes so it should be ok, no?

I've written 300 words while the pie crust is cooking.

Moms often know best!

So...you used frozen crusts, right? So you bake them partway before filling, I'm guessing? And they have their own foil pans?

I'm not sure what I'm gonna find for crusts. I know Pillsbury makes packaged crusts that aren't frozen, but I don't have pans and last year the grocery didn't have any foil ones...so maybe I should look at the frozen crusts.

Ah...Mr. Wright is now jealous 'cause he saw main gal chatting with the other guy. He's cute when he's jealous.

Yup, they have pans, you cook 'em, you cool 'em, they're done. Cost me $1.50 for a set of two (I only need one but they didn't sell singles).

They're much better than pre-cooked, non-frozen ones.

Right... I need Heroine and Love Interest to have a major misunderstanding here...
