The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

He's in his last weeks of school..

Doesn't he only have one more semester to go, after this one?

And we'll figure out a way to get you to ShootMoot if - if we have to make Suzi drive you out there!

Suzi's gotta figure out if SHE can make it out there, first!

Bah! I dismiss these problems! After all, I'm ignoring the difficulties I'm going to have getting there... sigh...

That's right...that's my understanding. That's what he told me. He has one more class and three more hours of thesis to go after this semester.

He should be done by Shootmoot, barring anything unusual.

The last few weeks of every semester are usually unbearably grueling...I literally exist as a single parent. Then "usually" there is a reprieve, during break. But this past summer there was very little "break" because he's working on his thesis and this Christmas break is likely to be the same, for the same reason.

It's hard on the whole family...but it's ALMOST over!

What other universities/colleges (even a community or junior college) are there in a 50 mile radius?

Nada, really. There are the other state colleges in the system, but they're not going to pay any more than this job.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd want to work for another school if I moved on. I do like the whole school year thing and the benefits and to an extent the atmosphere...but I could certainly make more working for a business. I was making a good third more at the last place I worked.

Just been reading the thread where the arab set himself on fire outside the WH.

There are some mighty sick posters on FR.

I like that about this place.

I'm lucky... if my car ever broke down, the bus could get me around at least during the day. It must be really tough to be totally without car.

I hate that we can get to the bus station! It's four miles away!

It's not so bad, really...we do school all during the day mostly anyways. I miss getting out and going to the library, the store and such. But it's not killin' us.

Heh. I also live close enough to the bookstore that I can walk there, so I have no fears of being carless. Oh, yeah, there's a grocery store nearby too, like that matters.

Thank you Jen, I just dropped in for a second. I had a chance to watch FOTR in French on one of the channels from Quebec up here in B.C. this weekend, but I forebore. See you!

The boys are going to be very proud of their Dad when he's all done! It's good for them to see, because they see that to succeed in life you need to be willing to work hard at it.

Absolutely! My dad set me that example early on... also taught me the importance of getting a good education and doing what you love. Mom worked hard too but Dad's job seemed more glamorous at the time. Of course know that I know what's involved I think Mom may have gotten the better deal after all.

But Dad has cooler hobbies.
