In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
schadenfreude \SHAHD-n-froy-duh\, noun:
1. A malicious satisfaction in the misfortunes of others.
If self-replicating e-commerce baby tycoons get on your nerves, it's schadenfreude time. It's true that the Nasdaq rebounded after its staggering loss Tuesday. Nonetheless, what AP described as "the most volatile day ever for U.S. stocks" left a distinctly bearish aftertaste.
--"Market Motion Sickness." The Industry Standard's Media Grok, April 5, 2000
Etymology: German, from Schaden, damage + Freude, joy. It is often capitalized, as it is in German.
Hey, I work buddy....... I do lots of things you wouldn't do..... ;^)
I missed it all, thanks for the news, had calls all afternoon. Missed the Pres as well. :(
Oh, pardon me. You do? Brava!
i was still at work for kerry's concession speech. didn't see anything of it.
You have such a dirty mind....... I meant cleaning and yard work and raising babies......cooking, cleaning again, laundry..... not to mention the moral and emotional support I give to my family.........;^)
Well they arrived, late, and as they got out of the car Kerry was walking and his daughters were right behind him...... I had enough time to say "where is the money?".........and she climbed out of the limo..... almost as an after thought, he turned back and kind of "led" her away from the car........on stage she looked ready to puke......I'm sure they were all tired, but she really didn't look well.......... at the end as they were leaving the stage he went down the steps and she was kind of stumbling down them - not blatantly so, but still it was not graceful.........I rather doubt she cried, that's for common folks like us.......
Well, you know, some of us are intelligent enough to have avoided all that family work stuff. Anyway, that's why women were created, so how can you possibly consider the whole point of your life to be "work"?
OH honey, even you and that mouth of yours can't ruin my mood today...........;^)
It would only improve your mood. And I'm almost giddy enough today to actually use it on you.
I'll have to watch the replay. I am so happy I can't even nap, doggone it! I'll regret it tonight around 4am.
Hey now, be nice........
Hey, that was nice! I almost made you a lascivious offer there.
I know - I need to get some things done and don't want to leave the computer! I feel like Christmas came early.......
Our cafeteria at work has several tvs in it and they were all tuned to FoxNews. I saw part of kerry's concession speech. It was pathetic as he droned on and on about all the little people who worked to support his campaign, including mentioning some kids who (1) sold bracelets to raise money a quarter and dollar at a time to contribute $600 to his campaign, (2) raided the piggy bank to contribute to his campaign, and (3) started a Kids for Kerry organization, and blah blah blah blah. I couldn't listen to any more of it. I did notice that little ambulance chaser edwards made references to the "two americas" theme of their campaign when he introduced the traitor for his concession speech. It made a great contrast when Bush in his VICTORY speech made mention of the fact that we are ONE country with ONE Constitution. W's speech was excellent.
Well as much as I appreciate you ALMOST making me the offer, my Marine would not be quite so appreciative.......;^)
I don't remember making HIM any offer...
A neighbor took us out for a celebratory lunch! We asked the waitress to turn up the tv, after asking her to put it on FOX - she never once smiled at us so I am going to assume we all ate whatever gross things she and the cook could find to put in our food.......lol......... after all that, we still couldn't hear much of the President's speech........but we saw skerry's whine before we left the house.......... my neighbor said it should be done like the Oscars - start the music to show an end to his alloted time........lol
Haha.......very good Arghy........lol
you poor thing. i am exhausted but i couldn't possibly sleep at this point either. i still have to see too many replays!
Sure, why not!
