Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 3, 2004

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

schadenfreude \SHAHD-n-froy-duh\, noun:

1. A malicious satisfaction in the misfortunes of others.

If self-replicating e-commerce baby tycoons get on your nerves, it's schadenfreude time. It's true that the Nasdaq rebounded after its staggering loss Tuesday. Nonetheless, what AP described as "the most volatile day ever for U.S. stocks" left a distinctly bearish aftertaste.
--"Market Motion Sickness." The Industry Standard's Media Grok, April 5, 2000

Etymology: German, from Schaden, damage + Freude, joy. It is often capitalized, as it is in German.

Actually one of the commentators on Fox said this around 2am this morning..... sorry I can't remember his name..... he said that not only did the President win with a bigger margin, but he also won a huge victory in gaining seats in both houses - he really praised the ability of the President to do that........ AND the President has won a larger margin in Ohio than the poster boy of the left, slick willy.........

Being the nice, forgiving person that I am..if Hollyweird will just STFU and go back to making movies like good little boys & girls, I'm willing to let bygones be bygones.

RE: popular vote

After listening to all of the pissing and moaning from the Libs about Gore being the rightful winner of the race, seeing those gosh-darned (insert correct word there, please) bumperstickers "Re-elect Gore in 2004".....I was going to crawl over broken glass to go cast my otherwise worthless vote for Bush in Maryland. It was a message, dammit!

Ugh, then, looking at the Maryland breakdown.....Kerry won Baltimore City by 120,000 votes (80%). There was no way the rest of the state could overcome that. Sure, let's go to the popular vote, and have those morons solely responsible for choosing our President.

xsmommy....going to any Inaugural Balls?

i am so glad that everyone, even in DEAD BLUE states, voted. it pumped up the popular vote to historic proportions and shut them the hell up finally on that score!

i went to a REAL inaugural ball when Papa Bush was elected, but it wasn't NEAR as much fun at the FR silverware ball. that is the ONLY one i would go to now! that will be a BLAST!

They simply cannot STFU... it's that nasty Stuart Smalley's disease which compels them to think: "Look at me! I have money; I have fame. My opinions are like gold. And, by golly, people like me."

4 years ago all of my sisters and I went to the Alternate PA Inaugural that was held at The Museum of Natural History. GHWB did not put in an appearance (nor was he supposed to). It was a really really good time. I kind of hope to go to that one again....although I've been told that it will be at a different venue this year.

but I might.

I am finally at home in Vicksburg!
