In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
scrutinize \SKROO-tuh-nyze\ verb
1. to examine closely and minutely *
2. to make a scrutiny
*Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
Signora Bernasconi scrutinized the painting, said to be by Fra Angelico, and declared it a fake.
Did you know?
A close look at the etymology of "scrutinize" reveals that the word stems from the Latin verb "scrutari" (meaning "to search" or "to examine"), which in turn probably comes from "scruta" (meaning "trash," or more specifically "a mixture of worthwhile articles and trash"). "Scrutari" gave us the noun "scrutiny" in the 15th century, a word which originally meant "a formal vote" and then "an official examination of votes." "Scrutinize" retained reference to voting, with the meaning "to examine votes," at least into the 18th century -- and even today in Britain a "scrutineer" is a person who counts votes.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Good morning.......!
i looked for the SNL show last night on NBC at 9, did you see it? it was NOT on here, that show Las Vegas was on!
I watched it - not sure of the channel though...but only watched the first part then called my daughter
It was just me with thing 1 and thing 2....we stood outside while they were leaving and gave them the thumbs up and waved go Bush loud enough for all the neighbors to hear......especially my idiot Delaware transplant lib neighbor across the street.....HAHAHAHA.........saw her heading to the polls this morning with her hippie earrings on....she's about 60 something....and looks ridiculous.
I'll be flushing from 6-7:30pm. After that we can flush the johns.
i LOL at the description of your neighbor! isn't that typical of a hippie lib? that refusal to move beyond the late 60s.
Flush twice.
It's a long way to Massachusetts.
Can you tell me what qualifies us to have someone show up at the door out of curiousity......we're registered republicans the thingumhub and I so we were both a little puzzled by it although it was really cool to have someone come to the door like that!!!!
Should I call someone to take us off the list so they don't waste any more resource time on us?
sorry i'm late i had to vote. FOUR MORE YEARS!!!!
Not me, I did the city of Cleveland on Saturday and Sunday.
Can you tell me what qualifies us to have someone show up at the door out of curiousity......we're registered republicans the thingumhub and I so we were both a little puzzled by it although it was really cool to have someone come to the door like that!!!!
That's us encouraging out base. In the last 72 hours, it's mostly about getting out our votes, keeping them hyped, making sure they know where their polling place is, and making sure they have rides.
Don't bother calling, they need to have the phones free for problems and to call our people who have yet to vote. Which is what I will be doing from 6-7:30 tonight.
A vote for Kerry/Edwards is a vote to be screwtinized...
i have only gotten ONE call and it was a computerized one for Tom Davis. i was sort of surprised, maybe i will have some more on the machine today, but that was the ONLY one we got. and that little JA gov of our's saying yesterday that VA could still be in PLAY??? In his dang dreams!
I was first in line at the polling place this morning. Voted against gay marriage, for cyanide in baby formula, against selling marijuana on street corners, and against removing term limits. Lotta steely-eyed guys wearing Carhartts and John Deere hats at the polls. Wanna bet they're voting for W?
I get no unsolicited calls because I am cell phone only.
