Without reading the other aricles/posts, I believe President Bush got his head handed to him in the debate tonight. I can't believe how inarticulate he was and with such a smug look on his face while looking for his answerrs.
More importantly, I was disappointed that with Kerry's babblings about coalitions that Bush did not speak of sovereignty until his closing remarks. I was also disappointed that Bush did not tell Kerry there is no way of knowing the intricacies of the innner circle's state policies.
And why did it take Bush in his closing comments to finally make the point of keeping terrorism offshore? He eluded to that frequently in his remarks about being on the "offensesive", but didn't make it clear to the average American about taking the fight to them.
Also, I kept hearing "talking points" from Bush, which is usually the demcRATs M.O.
He just lost 5 points in his lead; there's a big difference between a leader and an articluate speaker without sustance...e.g. clinton. That said, JoeSixPak and Soccor Mom believe what sounds good. They have no concept of a leader who may not be schmoozer from a competenant manager who doens't talk well, but does the walk.

Everyone wants Bush to attack Kerry. Well, it ain't gonna happen. My 16 yr. old daughter said tonight "You can tell Bush is a Christian by the way he acts. He would never say anything nasty about Kerry" She's right. Bush has class and manners.
Mods are posting under their freep names now?
I don't agree with you! BTW next time, wise guy, you go up and take his place and let's see how well you would be doing!!!
Almost every split screen view showed his disdain. Not good. Smiles would have been more effective.
more "woe is bush" vanity posts.
but the fact that the adminmod considers this "breaking news" when it is just another woe is us, op ed?
I just don't get it.
Not smug, angry, as well he should have been considering all of the questions were designed to put him on the defensive, and that smug ass next to him was calling him a liar constantly.
Exactly. He opened strong and finished strong. That's the key. The middle is often forgotten and, even there, Kerry had some long and very boring answers. I'm a political junky and I found myself praying for the little red light to come on. Bush wasn't as polished, but I thought his time went faster than Kerry's.
Remember the piece George Will did before the 2000 election? He reprinted Bush's and Gore's answer from an article on baseball discussing whether or not domed fields were better than undomed fields. Bush said he liked to go to baseball games outdoors... period. Nothing else. Gore went on ad nauseum about the history of the stadium and the domes from the ancient times. Which answer is the average American going to respect?
That's what we saw tonight: Kerry doing a Gore.
Don't worry about it.
Someone has to try to interrupt the Groupthink that usually prevails on FR.
My grampa used to tell me that if two people always agree on everything then at least one of them stopped thinking.
The "Me too" crowd doesn't contribute nearly as much as the voices of dissent.
I didn't see or hear the debate, but your take on it is every bit as valid as any other I've read.
My mistake. Just thought the importance of this debate would count as "breaking news". I apologize for the incorrect topic. Dont' post "articles" much.
I KNOW you are NOT a disruptor.
but this is an vanity opinion thread posted as breaking news.
it's not breaking news that you or I think bush won or lost.
It is an abuse of the classification... but apparently does not matter.
But it still should be moved to the appropriate category or appended to the appropriate debate thread d'jour.
and though it was probably not intentional abuse yet it is not 'breaking' news either.
Just want to make sure I understand. You didn't see the debate but have dismissed those of us who did as "group thinkers" just because we reached independent conclusions that might agree? Hmmm...
forgive me for coming off so CRASS.
I have misposted plenty of things.
No need. Kerry was much more on point, although wrongly, but Bush was on "talking points". Who the hell advised him to do that?
I didn't watch it, but I REALLY wish he could loosen up more. I've seen him work small crowds masterfully and look SO good.
Exactly. People here think they reflect the people bush is trying to reach in the debates. They don't. (sorry, folks).
While people here were saying "why doesn't he attack", "I want blood", etc, the people at home DON'T want it. Attacks turn the target market (swing voters) off when done by candidates. They work when they are done by the campaign and by proxy, NOT by the candidate themselves. That's why Kerry was screwed either way - he had to attack because he's behind, but by attacking, he's turning people off.
I think the panic crowd needs a few valium before the next debate. Mood swings aren't healthy.
Someone, I forget who as I channel surfed, said Kerry was like the smartest kid in the class, but Bush was like the teacher who was tired of explaining the same things again and again. So, who thinks the "smartest kid in the class" is necessarily a positive thing with middle American voters? I'd go for the teacher who had to deal with the know-it-all student.
BTW, I can't imagine anyone watching that debate and seeing smugness in Bush. That sounds like what the Dems were saying about what Bush would do before the debate even began. A talking point? Spin? I'd bet on it.
I'm not off the "deep end", I'm merely saying that Kerry articulated his points and was more focused than our President. Deal with it. And deal with the impact that it may have on the undecideds. Remember, clinton won the presidency twice by being a strong convincing communicator.
