Seismic activity at Mount St. Helens has changed significantly during the past 24 hours and the changes make us believe that there is an increased likelihood of a hazardous event, which warrants release of this Notice of Volcanic Unrest. The swarm of very small, shallow earthquakes (less than Magnitude 1) that began on the morning of 23 September peaked about mid-day on 24 September and slowly declined through yesterday morning. However, since then the character of the swarm has changed to include more than ten larger earthquakes (Magnitude 2-2.8), the most in a 24-hr period since the eruption of October 1986. In addition, some of the earthquakes are of a type that suggests the involvement of pressurized fluids (water and steam) or perhaps magma. The events are still occurring at shallow depths (less than one mile) below the lava dome that formed in the crater between 1980 and 1986.

Wouldn't scientists be able to detect some kind of gasses comming from the crater if something were happening?
I really don't know. I am just an observer and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night. But now that this is happening I really want to go visit again and listen to the talk of what this means.
bttt
We now live about 40 miles from St. Helens (as the crow flies). If she blows she blows, but, it could be years or it could be tomorrow. I'd be much more concerned about a lahar than an eruption.
Will do... She might show up tomorrow morning for a bike ride.
It will be interesting to hear the scientists say if this is different than an outbreak of small earthquakes at Mt. St. Helens in November of 2001 and how it's different.
Here we go again.
We'll stay clear! Thanks for the ping.
The Mountains rumblings did start with Micro Quakes but also the mountain began bulging up to 2 feet a day.
From the Seattle Post Intelligencer
A group of scientists planned to visit the mountain Monday and conduct a flyover to test for carbon dioxide and sulfur gases, which could suggest the involvement of magma. They'll also erect additional seismic sensors and sophisticated global positioning devices to measure activity.

Checking for that bulging...that would be a bad sign.
we posted at the exact same time
May be going through another Dome Building stage.
Within the last hour there has been another 2.0 richter scale tremor at the mountain.
Same here!
Okers.
Stay safe.
Welcome.
Kinda worried about that mountain and FReepers near it.
Agreed!
May God keep his hand on those near there.
Welcome.
Waiting to hear anything about the mountain bulging or uplifting at all.
