Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |

Also, some ingenuity on my part if I may so myself...
The AC has this pipe that comes from it, you know? Where the condensation comes out? Apparently there's a tray with a drain up in the attic, it drains out into the flowerbed beside the house.
Well, I took a plastic bowl and dug it into the dirt right there, right where the water drains out...the water now drains into that plastic bowl (and eventually overflows into the flowerbed.) This gives the chickens a little drinking fountain!
Now, whenever I let them out to free-range in the yard, they make a beeline straight for that very cold water bowl!
I'd guess she won't be wearing it long.
not if'n we're lucky...
Friday afternoon...yippee!
Everyone around here is excited about the Chiefs game. I don't watch pro football and couldn't care less. :)
Corin, are you connected with the real estate business in Kansas? Got a call from the real estate guy today: the property's been foreclosed on. Waiting to hear about my offer....
Chiefs?... who are they?...
I'm beat... I need food, a hot shower, and a stiff drink...
Dunno....think they like to wear red, though.
Boy...I made out like a bandit at the book sale! Came back with I would say dozens of books...and only spent thirteen bucks! I was gonna allow myself twenty, since this is a one time deal, and therefore I'm half tempted to go back tomorrow...
I can't even remember all I got. A lot of paperbacks from authors I've heard of but not read - it'll give me a chance to find out if I like 'em before I commit to much more. Whole bunch of Zelegny, 'cause they were only about a dime apiece. That's the right name, right? I can't remember if those fall into the must-read-in-order category or not. In any case, some of them don't appear to be part of a series, so I'm OK there.
Also got some classics I didn't yet own, like two Jane Austen books. Now I think I'm only missing Emma. I re-read those just about as often as LOTR, so it'll be good to have 'em!
I guess I don't NEED to go back...it's a form of literary gluttony. But oh, it's nice to have all the reading material I could want for months to come!
Zelazny? "Nine Princes in Amber" would be the first of those and yeah, it's best to read the "Amber" books in order, but he has some other stuff.
Glad you found so much! I'm just back from my errands. Got books too, but sadly only to borrow. On the way back, I had Hugh Hewitt on the radio. He was reading these parody-things, basically using Middle-Earth terms to talk about the Rathergate stuff. Quite funny. And then coming back from a break, he plays "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins"! I was in hysterics.
Ok, got gas, got cash, got snacks so hopefully I won't have to buy lunch and dinner tomorrow. I'm good to go!
I'm beat too, but I think it is ~because~ I've had food, a shower, and a few stiff drinks!
I just started FoTR :~D
Who knows where we'll end up :~)
Good evening.
Thinking of watching "the movie" tonight, now that hurricane season seems to be down to a dull roar!
Jeanne's in bed, I think that parallels her namesake in the islands, luckily.
We're gonna watch as long as we make it!
I still think it's the best of the three, although I love all three.
Happy New Year to you guys, and everyone btw!
still haven't had any of the above... but I'm gettin' close...
man... I am particularly odiferous today...
Zelazny, yes, that's it.
Looking through what I have, I think it's independent books. Should be a decent intro to his writing style, I'd say - then I can decide if I want to go to the trouble of getting the Amber series. I'd have to order those through half.come or something.
I also got some Agatha Christie, two Rex Stout books I've not read, some Alistair MacLean, and some mysteries from the 30s through about the 50s that look intriguing. Oh, I did well!
I'm still tempted to go back, though. I think they had stuff still in boxes waiting to be unpacked.
They also take credit cards, which is very dangerous.
Thanks for sharing! ;-)
silly question, but am I going tuh havetuh wait till November for the ROTK EE?...
Is ROTK in video stores (in the civilized world) yet?...
