The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I still think it's odd that they don't let your register the car at the DMV. Duh? But glad you'll be able to get that done.

Hey, I finally had the scale move this morning. It's been stuck for a month, but I was down two this morning. Also lost some inches recently.

I'm fast approaching a point where I should just chuck the scale out, since I care more about how I look and feel than about what number appears on the scale. I'm likely to eventually get to the number I was originally aiming for, since that's about where I was when I was in good shape before...but getting fit is now more important than weight. And I'm definitely not going to hit my goal number by the end of month, even if I do...probably more like by my birthday in mid-October. I can live with that!

Welcome! I don't post here much, but I still hang out when I have time. I live in Seattle, so I'm happy to see another Washingtonian joining us!

Welcome, welcome!

How FullMetal Alchemist Has Ruined My Evenings:

What can I say about this series? All I can say is: I LOVE IT!!! I find myself spending a couple hours a night watching this. Although I wasn't too crazy about the Alchemist angle I quickly came to disregard it and at times had a talk with my children about the "reality" of Alchemy.

This series has a lot going for it that I like. The themes of loyalty, brotherhood, love, friendship, and sacrifice outweigh any perceived negatives there may have been. The show is original with two main characters who quickly win you over. I find that I laugh with them, and sometimes at them (especially after "shorty" remarks), and there are times when I've cried with them (I'm thinking of the scene that Sensei hugs them after beating the tar out of them after they tell her about their efforts to transmute their mother).

I can't wait to see how the series concludes.

For some, it is biochemical warfare.

Hehe... oh, version 2 of 40 is bad, you really need to get a different version. Version 3 is ok, I guess, but version two totally missed the point sometimes.

Your reaction sounds a lot like mine! Glad I've been ruining your evenings. This is one of my favorite animes ever. The themes are so great. So is the story, the art, the voices, the music (what'd you think of the new opening/ending themes?)

Ha! Got the car registered. License plates go on front and back here, I had no front holder, or holes for one, so I had to go to the dealership. Got it installed. I think that's everything I have to do before school starts!

I have another couple hours before it's time to go to work. I'll just relax... sigh, my dieting hasn't gone too well lately, with moving-in stress, but it's going to go better, I swear.

When does school start? Is it next week? We still have a little time, here...but the first of the students return before school. I think the first years are here a week early. Won't be long.

Yeah, dieting or sticking with exercise isn't something to worry about when moving or dealing with a lot of stress or starting new jobs, IMO. Which is why I haven't done anything 'til now. At least...that's my excuse. ;-) Prolly shouldn't have posted anything, but I'm excited about getting close to goal! I'm within ten pounds now, unless I reset it. I'm only one pound away from where I was the fall after I got out of the military, actually...though I think I was in better shape then. But I'm working on that.

Notice how they don't seem to hire anyone who doesn't take a sadistic pleasure in giving the worst customer service to be found anywhere?

No, week after. So I have two weeks of "just working". Nice, huh?

That weight loss is incredible, Rosie. It must be so inspiring for you, your goal is in sight! Me, I'm just hoping to stop this stupid upward trend... sigh...

Speaking of sadistic, here's a really bad joke:

A sadist and a masochist are out for a walk. The masochist says to the sadist "Hit me! Hit me, pleaaase!"

And the sadist says "No..."

I did warn ya.

Yeah, that put me out $250. For the privilege of driving around. Bah.

$250? Yikes! That's a lot! Does that include some sort of vehicle tax or something?

Normal registration fees here are something like $50 a year for a car, $80 for a van or pick-up...and that's an increase from what it was a year or so ago.

I think it's because I moved into the state, so there are plate fees too. I know, yikes.

they are actually very friendly here... the state uses a fee for service organization here, so they ain't wards of the state... thewre's a $5 charge on transactions, and the money pays their salaries, and the profits go to the local school...

The ones at the registration place were nicer and more efficient than the drivers' license people. I only had to wait ten minutes and the woman moved right through everything. For the license, I waited two hours and then had to stand in three seperate lines, and they didn't even give me a photo license, they're mailing that to me.

Registration here includes plates...but I know when you first register a vehicle, you also pay taxes on the value of the vehicle. So maybe because you're moving into the state...that might be it. That would make perfect sense.

Oh, I'll check out your site for ep #40 then. Thanks for the warning.

I liked the first opening song the best so far and I just don't get the ending song that has scenes of Winry with her dog.
