That's just a hard concept for me this early! We've had a cooler (and wetter) than normal summer. But still, we won't see frost until October (at the earliest).
Jen, I don't know if you have a chance to get out and about but I have in my mind that I would love to come up and take you out sometime. It may not be exactly your cup of tea but a really good friend of mine is the band leader at the Flying W Ranch in Colorado Springs. They play "western" music. Not to be confused with "country." It is a good time to go and eat and hear the band at the Flying W and I want to come up and get you and take you there one of these days.
Here is the website for the Flying W:
http://www.flyingw.com/
On that site you can also hear the band, the Flying W Wranglers. They are great guys. If you happen to get there before I come up to take you be SURE and tell the bandleader Vern that Leggs said "Hello!" and I will not marry his uncle!!! :-)
We probably won't really get any until later in the month...but there are always pockets where they get temperatures a good 10 degrees below the average. Those are the first places to change to fall colors.
But I should probably get bulbs in soon if I'm gonna do it...every year I wait until too late!
I love 'em, but aspens are the weeds of the tree world. They propagate via their root systems- they send out runners and up springs a new tree. The new tree has the same genetics as the 'parent' and will turn the same color at the same time. You'll see these huge blocks of fall color that take up the entire mountainside cuz' it's all really the same tree.
You know the FLYING W????
I did a meeting at the Brodmoor back in '92. Took 1,000 of my closest friends to the Flyin' W for the evenin'. It was a hoot.
If it's not too late, go to www.brecks.com and get their catalogue. They offer $20 just to try their stuff. No catch and you don't have to buy anything else.
I don't think you can do it from the website (I may be wrong). But it's on the catalogue.
Rosabelle (aka Rosa-Bomb according to the jedis), one of the chicks I got for my neices for Easter has begun to squat!
Just in time, the other hens are thinking of molting, i believe and we barely get an egg a day.
I'd love to go to Colorado Springs! I'd like to see Pike's Peak... and I've always found that even music I wouldn't choose to listen to is a lot of fun "in person".
Let me know when you're coming and I'll have dinner ready when you show up!
That's cool. I didn't know that. They are beautiful trees even when they're just green. I love those straight silvery trunks, mixed with the pines and spruces.
I hadn't realized you'd spent time in CO. Where's a good 'nature' spot not too far from the Denver area? I went to Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend, and that was lovely...
I'm runnin' late... Whatever works, works! Prolly a new hole this afternoon!
Really, Incredibly Trivial Prayer Request: that I get my Java problem fixed today. I have two assignments that I really need to do this weekend and if it doesn't work, I'll have to go up to school (bleh) to do them.
...Ok, let me just get this off my chest: I'm soooooooooooooo envious of you!! How I'd love to be in CO!!!. You simply have to have some crazy adventures that I can enjoy vicariously. I'm 30 now. My fun is over.
You got it!
This isn't something you've downloaded from Sun, right? It's a full program of some sort?
I think my problem is the setup of the JRE - the Java Runtime Engine - which is from Sun, but it's supposed to set this stuff up by itself. It's not, and I don't know why. Sigh. Hopefully someone at school will know. I'm about to pack up my precious (the laptop) and I'm driving today just to make sure nothing happens to it...
I've had trouble with that on machines here, but usually it's when an old version is already on the system when I install a newer one. Uninstalling everything Java related and reinstalling does the trick. But you've probably already tried that.
Mmmm...curry tonight! Got the pork thawing while I'm at work.
It is getting fall-like here also. I just noticed some trees turning coming into work this morning. I think Fall is my favorite time of year.
I KNOW fall is MY favorite time of year!
Wish it lasted longer. But then...maybe I wouldn't appreciate it as much if it did.
I'm soooo glad I live somewhere with four distinct seasons!
Heh heh heh....
You know the friends I often talk about visiting and staying with in Colorado Springs? That's Vern Thomson the leader of the Flyin' W Wranglers. He and his wife Kathy are good ol' friends of mine. Vern is from a little town right down the road from me. He is from the town just on the *other* side of W's ranch! :-)
Vern is my friend Benny's nephew. hehehe
We be good friends. He needs to get over the idea that I need to be his aunt though - I don't need a nephew 4 years older'n me.
Also, you know I'm always talking about Benny and Clifford being a couple of my closest friends. They are 2nd cousins. Clifford and Vern were born on the same day in the same town. Vern is one of us Texans really. :-)
You can hear a little clip of him singing at their website!
The ONLY good thing I have discovered about living in Wichita Falls is that I am 3 hours closer to Vern and Kathy. :-)
