The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The package

Hmm, I could repeat the question, but that would be naughty of me.

Yes. Good episode! Not as good as the Elimination of Shor but Plucky and Her Cousin Obnoxious, though.

Colin's a moron. That's all there is to it.

He looks very Teutonic in that picture, to say the least.

It's a portrait by Annie Leibovitz, who is a damn good photographer, although unfortunately also a leftist, I believe.

~ACK~

Spoilers!

We've seen the beginning of that movie a few times, but it's always on later in the evening, and we fall asleep before its over.

Good news that it is coming to DVD, so maybe we can finally watch the end.

I can't remember if they used an F series or E series EMD locomotive in those scenes.

300winmag, I am fairly sure you can tell me which?

Whoops, sorry! Didn't think anyone hadn't seen the movie, it's pretty old. Old enough that the trains were still using the old equipment, which was nicer than what Amtrak has these days, although their stuff is OK.

Ah.. Leibovitz... even as minimally cultured as I am I know who she is. Among the best of portrait photographers.

Now just a spoilin' moment here... you can't go whinin' about spoilers on a twenty year old movie... :-)

Next you're gonna tell me that you didn't know that Rick doesn't get on the plane with Ilsa. :-)

Well, they ruined a perfectly good picture of a nice Lippizan by putting that guy on his back. The horse isn't posed right, and part of his forehead is cropped in the photo. Maybe there was a hand on his browband, holding him.

I used to hang out online with someone who really knew her Lippizans, and could tell the "family" of one just by the photo, and take a good guess at his parentage. Lipps are actually an entire "product line" of horses, from dainty-looking and Arab-like to heavy-duty draft types.

Are you sure it was a tick and not a brown recluse spider? The spider creates a distinctive 'bull's eye' mark. One of the leaders got bitten by one at the Girl Scout town encampment, and it left a nasty mark.

Yah know... just a few weeks ago I got a bite of some kind. On my back, or really on my side about even with where my elbow hangs. It was just a big red bump, maybe 3/4inch in diameter. No circles or anything.

I figured it was a spider... and it has since all but disappeared. But it was too big to be a mosquito or anything else I've seen.

I heard that.

Just stoppin' back in folks. I thought Laura did a great job. And yeah Ramius, they're kids. I would've edited their material, but c'mon they were cute.

Stopped by really with a prayer request. Nana's hip (the new one) locked up on her tonite. We heard her crying upstairs just as Greta was getting ready to talk with Rush. Had to call 911. The paramedics took her out on the stretcher board. Wife followed them to the ER.

I gotta go. It's late and Luke is still awake.

g'nite

I don't know, it could have been a skeeter bite. I've had some that left quarter sized welts on me. They weren't raised very high, but they were HUGH!

No, I love Garth and his rodeo lyrics. I'm a San Antonio girl, remember ... as a tiny child (three, four) I stood in the cold along Houston Street and cheered the rodeo parade. I went to the rodeo every year, and I still like to watch (makes DaBear crazy when I start watching the bull riding and barrel racing).

Blame it all on my roots.
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair. ...
