The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Buckwheat with zukes sounds good!! I love zuke bread, so flapjacks ought to be good! I didn't realize the place was so close to you! I've been thinking of going up to the King Arthur Bread Flour place in Norwich VT, but since I'm not supposed to be eating TOO much bread, it would probably only frustrate me! LOL!

I found some Bob's Red Mill Whole Wheat Flour at the natural foods store the other day that had a recipe for Bread Machine Whole Wheat bread. I'm gonna HAVE to try that sometime this week! ;o)

I'm torn about this, I'd love an older home in an established neighborhood. I love the streets that have the houses set back some, but then have 'service alleys' behind them so all the garbage pickup, etc, can be done there. The streets aren't too wide, so they don't invite speeding, etc.

On the other hand, I'd love a large lot on the water; the ocean, or a HUGH lake!

LOL!! I forgot it was your birthday!! Another possibility is to get together the following Friday night. She gets done at camp around 1 or 1:30, but we could hang around doing something ( maybe go by the King Arthur store! LOL!) until you've finished with work. Don't you get off around 4:30?

How far is Waterbury VT from the Camp Hulbert area? There's a company that makes an electric cooktop and cool range hood that I'd like to visit, iffn it's close by.

The way things flood around here, I don't want to be anywhere near waterfront. I'll just hang up beach pictures on the wall.

I'd like a larger lot just so I'm not too close to the neighbors but on the other hand I don't want to spend a lot of time cutting grass. I have to have some trees, though. I miss the sound of leaves in the wind.

I can get King Arthur whole wheat flour at the grocery here - and it's stone ground. Excellent flour. I haven't made bread since I've been on South Beach, though...I'm kinda afraid I'd end up having a lot more of it than I'm supposed to...though it'd be nice just having eggs and toast in the mornings sometimes, so maybe I'll make some one of these days...maybe just one loaf, and right away freeze half.

That would be nice to have. I've got a nice, but misguided neighbor. His bumper sticker says, "dump George Weak on the environment Bush".

I get off at four...but would probably not be able to get on the road from HERE until four thirty. But yeah, that'd be a nice possibility! I wouldn't rule out the Sunday, but it might be easier to do something Friday.

Waterbury isn't all that close to Fairlee...for one thing, going from east to west or vice versa is always a challenge in Vermont. We don't really have any interstates that run in that direction, so you'd be taking state routes much of the way. I'd say it'd be about an hour and a quarter...which I guess isn't THAT bad, but a good chunk of time.

Oh, I can get King Arthur Flour at the grocery store, too, but I like some of their other ingredients. Clare likes their 'flourescent' orange cheese powder. Mixed with milk and put on pasta, it's just like the boxed macaron and cheese which she loves! LOL. They also have some other interesting ingredients and cool kitchen tools. I want to get the Walnut cookie molds. You can make a couple of puffy cookies, but a filling in them, put them together and they look like Walnuts!

I just looked at the map, and it looks like it would be closer to you for us to meet in Montpelier or just outside of it. From there, it's a straight shot back down I-89 to NH, then on home for me. So does Fri. afternoon, Oct. 22nd sound OK?

I've never ordered from them, but I DO like browsing their on-line catalog. Neat place...I should find out how much shipping is one of these days. It might be worth getting a bunch of stuff.

That would work...Montpelier is closer for me than Lebanon anyway!

There are a couple of good restaurants there...I could do some research before late October, maybe. For one, there's a new steakhouse / BBQ kinda place that's rumored to be excellent.

It doesn't have much in the way of chain restaurants, but Barre is just down the road, and they do. There's also a really good diner on the Barre-Montpelier road, which isn't hard to get to at all. Definitely plenty of options.

I have three cats on the computer desk right now, one of 'em trying to rest her head on my hand while I'm typing. And it's blazing hot. What's wrong with this picture??
