Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Hill and water under sky
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yep, you've mentioned Alpha and Beta.
We've always had people names for our pets. Not as cool as yours. Davy, Danny, Ida (who got the nickname "Boo", for no apparent reason), Olav (who was mostly called Oleo...), etc. The last cat at the house is an enormously fat grey cat with white feet. His name's Victor.
Right now *I* have Tamino (Tam for short), named for the prince in Mozart's Magic Flute, Halvah (it's a kinda candy), and Cleo, short for Cleopatra - I did NOT name her. Plus dogs Fiona (NOT named for the princess in Shrek...) and Fritzi (who I didn't name).

Since when did you forget your pocket personal compression device? No ninja worthy of the name would forget it!

We watched Hidalgo last night. I chuckled at one line uttered by Frank Hopkins in respond to the Arab Sheikh's interest in his Colt revolver, "God made man, Mr. Colt made them equal."

Vey interesting!
My BC is blind in one eye. It is completely clouded. She is vey old, has arthritis, a clubbed foot, etc. It's a wonder she can still climb up the couch (she can't jump anymore higher than a couple of feet and thank goodness has decided ~not~ to climb the trees).

Hi there! Welcome to our humble abode!
Sir SuziQ (SSQ) and I homeschooled our two younger kids from when they were in 5th and 8th grades. The younger one will go to high school this year, attending the same school from which our two older sons graduated. Our daughter will be in 11th grade this year, wants to continue h/sing, and is starting to think about college. She is also a HUGH anime fan, like JenB, Rosie Cotton, ksen, and Fedora. She brought lots of Anime to Entmoot in January and they spent every evening watching it. (Except for Fedora cause he wasn't there; next time, Fedora!)
Living in Ireland, huh? That's one place in Europe I would love to see. Someday, we'll take a trip to the British Isles!

Yeah...haven't taken pictures in awhile.
Several of 'em weren't exactly planned. The only ones I actually sought out and selected were Tam and Fiona. Mom showed up with Halvah one day, Cleo I was asked if I'd take when someone couldn't keep her any longer (she's another Siamese mix and they knew I liked Siamese), and Fritzi was my mother's. She passed away in 2002 and Dad wasn't up to caring for him. I should find a new home for him really since he really would do better with someone home all day, but I haven't brought myself to do it yet. He's Fiona's brother.
I have too many pets. But...I guess that's better than the alternative, which I lived with for a long time.

Well I can go with superdeformed chibi-ninja mode but I find it is hard to sit still for long periods of time like that.

David told me about something funny that happened to him the other day. He was on campus and asked someone where a post office box might be. He was told, and walked to it. As he walked up, there were two Indian men standing at the box, with quizzical looks on their faces, and they asked him how to open the box! David pulled the door open and showed them how the mail or package in their case, went into the opening and the door closed on it, pushing it down. They were so gratified, and relieved he came along; they couldn't figure it out! LOL!!
He thought it was funny, but figured much the same thing might have happened to him if he went to a foreign country and was confronted by something with which he wasn't familiar.

Ninja sneak freep (I always thought ninja were way less cool than they're made out to be. I like samurai better)...
Hullo, not much going on here at the moment - cross my fingers that it stays that way. No class until 12:30. I hope it doesn't start raining because I'll get very wet in my ten minute walk across campus.
Talon - if you tell sibs about this great place, they'll show up. That's why I've never given my family the name of this site!

That is amusing!
How's he like grad school? For me, I think the learning curve's going to be steep... I have to do some serious work this weekened or I'll get behind before I've even hardly started.

SDF-chibi! I'd like to see you do that...
I call my little brothers "chibi" sometimes. Or "baka". Though they've figured out what that one means from context. Hafta work out some new insults before I go home for Christmas.

I am suddenly most tempted to draw that, but I think the interactions of the kawaii factor and the supercool factor would cause an international incident after Dublin and a few hundred miles of countryside were wiped off the map.

His first day of classes was yesterday and I fully expected him to call last night, but he didn't. I know he'll call sometime this weekend.

Hah! That is our brother's machine and he tends to send pictures original size. And let me tell ya, when you get an email of a brand new baby in a thumbnail size it is cool. When you get a shot of a newborn's head that fills a 21" monitor is is down right frightening.
"Oh look Joe sent pictures of the newborn..*click*..AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"
