The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Nicely spammed. Shameless, yes, but snaiged nonetheless. :-)

Thank you!

It's been a while since I've snatched one. It was time.

Don't remember those. I remember a story in the 4th grade reader called "The Dimity Dress" about the Catholic settlers in Maryland. And the seventh grade reader was mostly patriotic stories about America. These were most definitely readers with a Catholic point of view! I loved them , though, and still do. Joseph used the 7th grade one last year for several reading assignments. The vocabulary was always challenging, and the writing was well done. Definitely NOT dumbed down, after all, these were the readers I used almost 40 years ago!

I asked SSQ about the video editing software we got Clare last year. Turns out it is the same one Bear mentioned last night; the U-Lead brand.

Can you make her say "I just had it stuned?"

I tried; that part came out poorly. I didn't have much to work with.

In the original, she says "Thank you, I just had it stuffed." I was able to separate out the "oo" part of "you" and the "n" (actually more of a "ng") in "thank" and replace the "uff", but it was imperfect and you sort of have to expect it.

Perhaps with a larger sample, I could do better, but for now, this is it.

Ha ha ha ha!!! You nut.

I was on pain meds most of the day yesterday and into the night, but ever now and then the question about the pets would drift into my consciousness. I'm glad they are removing that eye...

I'm giving it series thought.

Actually, in my case, it might not be a bad idea. Doc told me since I have very little tears in my eyes it makes the tissues in there very fragile. So a whack that might just irritate someone else really messes me up.

So it's a thought.

Ya know...you really shouldn't throw out comments like that when I was reading up to hear about YOUR eye problems. Startled me for a second - yikes!

Good morning!

Gonna be a busy day. School starts next Tuesday, so we only have a few more days to prep the computer labs and do all the other things we generally do before the year begins, PLUS there's an orientation / placement testing session today, PLUS there are soooo many students coming by or calling because they've no idea how to log in after being away for the summer, and parents calling because they're just NOW getting a computer for their kids and aren't sure what to get.

Keeps ya on your toes, I guess...

And is it just me or is everyone getting hit with a lot of viruses this week? I'm getting them every day. Netsky, as far as I can tell. Got it twice this morning. One was supposedly an email that failed to deliver, with message.scr as an attachment. The other was an email from noreply@paypal.com.

I found both of them in my web-based email...didn't open then. I always check my mail through the web first, delete anything I don't like and then let it download into my OE. It still doesn't open attachments automatically and my McAfee should catch it if I accidentally do. But I've never had to test it...I always catch them on the web first.

Our e-mail server does a VEY good job of stripping off viruses and dangerous attachments, so I haven't seen much of that, but I do occasionally get messages as a result of someone ELSE with a virus...i.e. if someone with your name in their address book gets infected, it can spoof your address in sending to someone else, and you may get a rejection message.

And then...we've seen a couple worms over the last few days (Korgo and Sasser.G) that spread via network, but for the most part systems here are up to date. The problem is gonna be all the students that are NOT - one infected machine could do all the rest of them in. Officially, we're just going to tell them how to clean them and scold them for not having up to date antivirus software and for not keeping Windows updated...but in practice I'll probably end up working on quite a few of 'em. *sigh*

Yep, someone with my name in their addressbook took the bait.

My best friend just returned to school and quite a few of the addresses I'm getting have her school email address on them. Not her, but her school.
