The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ok, look at a postcard of your hometown and describe it to me. If you sound like a cold-sober Victorian poet, I'll know what's wrong...

LOL!

Heh...you don't want me to try it right now, though. Trust me on this. My heart is full...

Man, I love this time of year! I can't put my feelings on it in words without sounding gooshy, but when there's that nice crisp tang to the air, and the leaves start changing, and the last of the apples and corn are ripening and you can almost taste the snow that'll be coming in a few months...it just does something to ya.

How close to ripe do they have to be before you can pick them and let them go the rest of the way on a windowsill or in a bag with a banana?

I haven't had popcorn in ages! Speaking of popcorn, what movies have the Jedis been watching?

BTW, we played Scrabble today, and I actually beat my Dad and brother who are Scrabble national tournament wannabe kinda folks...actually have Scrabble study guides and such. ;-)

So that might also have to do with why I'm on a high.

Yay Rosie!

It's definitely still summer here! The heat on my walk reminded me of that.

But tomorrow, school starts. That makes things feel like fall, whatever the weather. Um... Trivial Prayer List request... I'm just so terribly nervous about all this. I need A. peace and B. to do really well this semester. I mean, technically I have to keep a 3.0, but if I don't do better than that I don't think I'll be able to do more advanced work...

I love this season, too. There's so many crops coming in and it's warm without being too hot. The period from late August to Halloween or so is one of my favorite times of year.

Added to TPL...

I'll be requesting prayers for our September 5th gig when we get closer, too!

I just returned the Earth VS The flying saucer one and the Forbidden planet one the other day...we are waiting for When Worlds Collide and The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Heh, me too :) And I've gotten worse since I discovered the computer version of Scrabble!--used to spend *way* too much time playing that.

I don't know! We usually pick some accidently that aren't quite red yet and let them finish on the windowsill.

Good experiment, though...I got green tomatoes and I got bananas...could do one on the windowsill and one in the bag with a banana...

I'm just curious...with the weather starting to get chilly, it'd be nice if I could finish some off the bush, but I don't wanna pick 'em so green that they'd never ripen, either.

Cool! I think I'm going to need to watch those again myself :) I just love that battle scene at the end of "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers".

Me too :) Another thing I really like about this time of year is going to the farmer's markets. Especially when the pumpkins come in for Halloween! I meant to try planting my own this year but the weather wasn't good for it. Maybe next year.

I'm gonna donate blood.

I haven't since Jan. 2002. I gave sometime in Oct. 2001 to take up the slack for so many who donated for 9/11 and then couldn't...then again in Jan. 2002. Not since.

ARRGH!!I just want it to hold off here until about mid to late December. We want to get the basement wall up and the floor poured, then get the decking on the first floor done before the snows come. Don't know if we'll be able to do it, but we're gonna do the best we can!

BTW. We went to see The Village today. It was very good!! A REAL interesting movie, and that's all I'll say!

Your kids could watch it, 2J, if they were able to handle Signs, but is is definitely one of those creepy films.
