The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I... vaguely recall Morris the Cat in some really lame cartoon strip. With a penguin, no?

I'll probably not decorate too much this year, and I won't be buying many new decorations. I'd just have to store them until the following year, and move them around while we're remodeling!

I always buy at least one new ornament for the family (got a snowman with a beach towel and sunglasses while we were at Perdido Key), and one for each of the kids. When they move away, I'll box their special ornaments up and they'll have twenty some ornaments for their own first tree! Of course that means I'll have to get a BUNCH of new ones for the home tree! ;o)

AAAACCKK!!!

You're confusing Bill the Cat with Morris the Cat.

Bill the Cat was in the comic strip Bloom County with Opus the Penguin.

Morris the Cat was the Purina Cat Chow spokes-feline (do I have the brand right?)

Only thing I would've done different is kept the book.

I've got this one book club that's still sending me ads 10 years after I last ordered anything from them. I got off their mailing list for a while and then somehow they found me when I filed change of address recently. Don't know why they bother, they're losing money mailing me the ads.

Purty good letter. I love book clubs, but I absolutely detest their pushy sales practices.

Whatever. Once again we see why I am the master of Trivial Pursuit's "Pop Culture" category.

That's what my family did for me. It is such a wonderful tradition. I've decided to do the same for my nephew.

Close :) 9 Lives spokes-cat. Morris is famous for being finicky: he won't eat anything except 9 Lives :)

Just add "IMHO" after every third word :)

I hope this goes somewhere...like, into the folder labelled "Stupid-Looking Freedom Tower", replacing those misbegotten plans...

I suppose it would be too much to ask to have that fargin' "Sec. 922(R)" or whatever the bakshi is keeping me from putting a for-real folding stock and a coupla detachable 20-rd mags anywhere near my SKS done away with...

Theoretically, all that goes away if (still an "if") the bill sunsets. Expect BATFE to come up with import regs that read as if the AW ban was still in effect, and a rule that forbids mods to anything brought in during the ban, even though it would now be gone. They can create "law" out of thin air.

Of course that means I'll have to get a BUNCH of new ones for the home tree! ;o)

I developed a recipe for my apartment-sized tree that worked well during my teaching days: Get a bunch of off-season silk flowers and a spool or two of decorator ribbon, some glass balls and whatever heirloom ornaments: Instant tree! (looks really decorator-ish, too). My favorite was cream roses + gold and cream brocade ribbon + pearlescent glass balls. Second favorite tree was red poinsettas and gold ribbon.
