The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm talking online. We bought a big house last year and need a big tree to put in it. I've been planning this for a year, and have just needed a good sale. Found one, finally.

There's a right way and a wrong way to do pineapple pizza. . .

Unfortunately if you're handling tons of tomato sauce, sometimes the pineapple juice on your hands (from empty cans and such) can trigger a really nasty itching/burning sensation.

Anyway, I like the true pizza: pepperoni, lots of cheese, on a thin but not wafer-like crust. Oven-fired by preference. Garlicy crust a plus.

How do you like thick crust/Chicago style?

Sounds unplesant. I worked one summer in a dining hall at a big scout camp. My fingers were permanently burned. I swore off food service after that.

THAT'S why Algore was so stiff! The puppeteer had a cramp, or a tea break, or somethin'...

Very nice... Can't make out the one on the left. Mauser of some sort? Not sure. The one on the right is a Mini-14, right?

Evenin' evellybody. [slurp]. Very. Bad. Day. Today. I'm not even having any Turkey tonight. Can't risk it. That's how bad it was. :-)

That's wrong, too. Hand-tossed is ok, sometimes, but I really like Pizza Hut's thin crust.

I'm a food nazi... there's a reason I cook the same five dishes all the time. I don't like a lot of foods. No pasta. Nothing with too many tomatoes. No lima, kidney, red or navy beans. No fish. No potatoes, except fries, baked, or homefries.

I really love cooking for myself... ;-)

Sorry...

Left: M1903A3. I am particularly proud of this one as I found it in a pawnshop in a 1950's or '60's civvie stock, and got the original type stock and hardware for it. My dad tracked down the original type GI leather sling.

Right: M1 Carbine (.30). Found this one in a sporting goods store in narsty shape including ROK Army markings painted on it. I took pictures before stripping that bakshi off. Some purist will scream in horror at the idea of refinishing, including defacing "historically significant" Han-gul...to which I reply "nothing personal, but Pfthbttt." Note the M1 Carbine bayonet, 30-round mag (properly belonging to the M1A2 selective-fire carbine) and the ammo puch that contains 2 15-rd mags.

BTW I really think the AWB has gone buh-bye...still awaiting confirmation.

Will you let me shoot 'em at Entmoot?

Based on my one time shooting, I like rifles a lot more than handguns. Somehow I'm not so scared of rifles. And I think they're more fun anyway. (Is my terminology totally wrong? Are all long guns rifles?)

Of course you can shoot 'em. (heh heh heh). I'm sure there will be others who want to too, and I understand the nads (g' and the rest) will have several others you can try.

Long guns can be rifles (like these), shotguns, and more rarely these days, muskets, musketoons, arquebuses...

I am discovering that now is an excellent time to purchase artificial Christmas trees.

Where are you finding them? When we get the addition enclosed, I'd like to have a 9' tree for the family room. Looks like it won't be for this Christmas, but definitely for the next one!

Only from the wrong end.

Since they are ex-military, I have to qualify this statement:

Since I have owned them, my guns have killed fewer people than Ted Kennedy's car.
