Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!

Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
I'm sorry, but Barney is in a whole 'nother league of evil. Big Bird doesn't deserve THAT comparison.
Can you imagine? Someone dressed up like Spiderman, coming up to some child somewhere...convincing them that they are Spiderman and hauling them off!
I know this is an unlikely scenario...I mean, a big yellow bird ambling up to my yard is likely to cause some attention...but it's the idea!
The little girl doesn't look like she asked permission. It "looks like" she just opened the door and left.
Not a good thing, imo. But then again...I'm not called a white-knuckler for nothin'.
I guess it's a case of "tv isn't real life". Of course in TV-Land, it's ok for kids to go off with Big Bird.
In the show, was she friends with Big Bird already? If your kids had a friend they were always allowed to go with, that would mean they didn't have to ask permission....
Still, I don't suppose white-knuckling can do much harm. It's not the most fun way to live, I know, I have the same tendencies, but it'll get there.
It's TV. Big Bird is a friend and I'm sure someone the child "knows." On Sesame Street, Big Bird is not a grown-up in a costume.
Still, in RL, yes I could see the concern if a big yellow bird came up to your front door (and it wasn't Halloween).
But I wouldn't normally allow a child that young to answer the door in the first place.
I know it...it's just "pretend"...it's a commercial about how Big Bird (PBS) can take your child on an adventure. He takes her to all these places...I don't even recall where...but it just appears that he goes to a house and this little girl comes out and goes with him!
What if a child sees that and thinks it's ok to just go with ANYONE that comes to the door and says they're friendly? I just don't think it's a good premise to be setting...
I'm really not too worried about it. I've had my kids trained from an early age not to answer the door AT ALL and to go to their room when someone knocks.
The biggest irritation I have with homeschoolers sometimes is that they just pop open their door to anyone who knocks, then they gripe when it's CPS and they storm in their house.
I NEVER open my door to anyone I don't know. They can stand out there and knock till their hand falls off. I don't answer the door if I don't know the person. If Steve is home, he might, but not me.
So this PBS commerical is just slightly annoying to me.
Exactly!
I don't think you need to worry too much. IIRC, Sesame Street always did a good job talking about "stranger danger", so it probably comes out right.
And your kids know better. You can't worry about other peoples' children, you'd never get any sleep at all!
Yay! Have an appointment to get my hairs cut tonight. It's longish now and driving me nuts!
I emailed my Sunday school teacher's wife...her hair is short and always so nice...I asked her where she got it cut.
I'm gonna get mine cut SHORT! It'll always grow back.
I'll probably just get my trimmed to just above chin length - that's usually what I do. And everytime, I ask the gal to suggest another hairstyle if she thinks something else would work better, but so far no one has been brave enough to change it...
I gotta do something...you wouldn't believe the mess all this long hair is making. I heard the dust buster going and went into the bathroom to find Joshua down on the floor dustbusting the hair up from when I combed it after my shower! I thought I got all of it as it came out with my hands! I didn't even look down and the floor was covered.
(That's Joshua's "job". He dustbusts whenever he sees the need.)
You'll have to post a picture when you get it cut!
I'll just be happy to have mine off my neck. I never let it get long enough really to put up (it's so fine that it really makes a very sad braid / pony tail), so I can't do anything about it, and especially when I'm walking in the mornings it's just sooo hot!
Hm...can I hire Joshua? My house could definitely use some dustbustin'...
He got the job because he fits underneath the kitchen table...he dustbusts under there. LOL!!
Oh, good! Hair worries are the most annoying, aren't they?
I like mine at the length it is now, longish. I've been wearing a partial ponytail most of the time - the front sections of my hair pulled back with the rest left free. It takes the weight of the hair away from my face without leaving the hair in one big pony. My hair's so thick, I really have to wear it in pieces if I want it long.
And I do... for one thing, some of the geek guys around here have ponytails and I don't want any guy to have more hair than I do!
I only wish I had problems with my hair bein' thick! ;-)
Ah well.
No ponytailed guys here, though. So no competition there...
You have very pretty hair!
Thank you! And I spend $20 every two month on the dye to keep it that way!
;-)
;-)
Though I imagine your natural color is very pretty also.
I like my hair color! It's the one thing about it I DO like...
Good Boy!
