The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ok...here are my actual numbers...I went and got a printout of them...

CHOL: 264
HDL Test 75
TRIG 83
RCHOL/HDL: 3.52
Test LDL: 172

You really think I can just blow off this guy? Just tell him I am refusing treatment?

I'd love to, because it looks like doing low cholesterol Atkins would be a real hassle!

Avery makes CD labels that are pretty cool, you could make some semi-professional looking CDs. They also make case insert templates.

I've seen those at Staples, and I think they'd be the way to go, if we do this.

*sigh* Procrastinating even further, because music night got cancelled tonight. Jim's sick, and I'm starting to feel crappy, too, and we couldn't find Bilbo until the last second when we'd already cancelled. We're gonna have a make-up on Friday, but I'm still feeling guilty because I'm not really sick YET and we could have done it.

I'm good at guilt.

Excellent! Glad it made it!

Couple more people should get them in the next day or so...but I also need to burn more for a second round...

*Shrug* Why wait 'til you're full-blown sick? Maybe if you got some rest you can head it off at the pass.

Just tell him I am refusing treatment?

You are not obligated to do anything. He works for you, remember? He's used to treating people like idiots- and you're not one. He gave you a rubber-stamp perscription because the HMOs/Medicare buracracy sez he's only obligated to spend 15 minutes with you and the pharmaceutical reps say "everyone should be on Lipitor". I guarantee he didn't study your family history, case histories similar to yours, or your whole big picture of health.

Don't you worry. You are healthy. You eat well. There's no rush to reduce a number. It's an arbritrary standard. It changes like the shifting sand. Just like the height/weight tables. Just like the blood pressure tables. Just like the four food groups food pyramid. These things are thought up by committees who are trying to make public policy out of a best-fit line.

You just start reading up and then make your down decision.

And truly- Don't worry. He'll try to get you on hypertension meds next. :P

Kinda accidental really good South Beach dish discovery...

First of all, I gotta say it's cool how my tastes have changed. I went grocery shopping quickly on the way home, which is pretty much always a mistake since I'm hungry and I impulse buy. Used to be, I'd come home with junk. I bought stuff I didn't go in for today, too, but my impulse buys were: one eggplant, a bunch of broccoli, nectarines, and plums. I went to the register feeling guilty 'cause I had two things on my list and them weren't it...but had to laugh at myself, too.

OK, discovery: I took an eggplant, sliced it in 1/2" slices, salted it and let it drain a bit. Then I rinsed the slices, dipped in beaten egg, and then in an almond meal / parmesan cheese mix, probably a little more almond than parmesan. Put that on a oiled cookie sheet and baked at 375 for a little over 20 minutes, turning them halfway through.

It was WONDERFUL! Really, really good. I'll be making it again, for sure. Had to remember that "eat until satisfied - not stuffed" rule. And this is in spite of a sore throat.

Sounds like a good excuse, anyway.

I'm gonna go to bed by nine or so. Couldn't have done that if'n I had a houseful.

Take it easy, Rosie. Don't get sick-er. Have the evening to yourself and don't you dare feel guilty. Watch some anime or something, that's an order.

I think I'm gonna make some tea and watch an episode or two before hitting the hay early.

37 was bizarre. But I really, really like Roy...

My dad has high cholesterol too...I don't know his numbers or ratio, but they put him on some medicine that ate away a bunch of his muscle mass! He's a really tall thin fellow.

They took him off the meds!

You know...it looks like my HDL (good cholesterol) is making up for my bad, I have "more" than normal (30-60 being normal!)...but that all the numbers except for the 264 total cholesterol are within normal limits!

I made a faux chicken cordon the other nite that was good. It's essentially a sandwich of a thin chicken breast (pounded thin), a layer (or two) of ham or prosciutto, a layer of meunster cheese, a layer of swiss cheese, and topped with another piece of thin chicken breast. Heat it in the oven so the cheese melts. Tastes a lost like the restaurant version- only you don't have to worry about breadding and frying it.

That sounds good! Do you just use a meat mallet to pound the chicken? I don't have one of those, but...not like they're that hard to find.

I'll probably use the breading I used tonight on some other things, too. I was surprised at how good it was, considering it was so basic! Didn't even add any spices, though I can think of a few that might be good to try. Garlic, at least, in any case.

I found out the natural foods store here sells almond meal that they grind in the store, and the price isn't bad at all.

Oh, btw...this is my anemia profile:

Iron: 77 (normal is 60-170...a little on the low side of normal)
TIBC 326 (normal is 240-450)
Saturation 24% (normal is 20-50%)

The iron and the saturation is on the low end and is likely just because I'm pre-menapausal. He put me on Feosol, which I like...it does make me feel better...
