Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
that's why you was burgled... yuh ain't home tuh defend yer stuff... do you think they would've tried if'n you were home?... not a chance... bastiges...
No, my contract calls for me to work half-time. It's a pretty standard grad school thing, school is supposed to be the focus. If I were working full-time, at that rate... and if you count my tuition waver... I wouldn't be doing too badly, salary-wise. As it is I'm not starving, but things are going to be challenging.
I made a nice spicy chicken curry tonight! Added sriachi sauce to the curry paste and coconut milk. Yum! And there's enough to take for lunch tomorrow!
I love cooking for myself!
Hello all!
Bear; we have a winner, that's it. I don't know if they're used much up in Hair's country, most other places they have pretty much displaced the crawler tractor for skidding logs to road.
Usually they have an arch on the rear with a winch for getting the front part of the logs off the ground once the chokers have been set. Center articulated. Some farmers using them now.
I think leftovers really are a good thing...you get to appreciate your efforts twice!
Since we've been on Atkins, we could huge amounts of meat. Now we don't pig out on it all at once but have it over a few days...like chicken breast. You can make a chicken salad, toss some on your chef salad, make a wrap out of it and so on.
We use the road grill, since the oven is busted. Speaking of which! Steve found the problem, we think. The little ignition jobber under the broiler is busted...he took it in and a parts guy tested it. Costs 60 bucks to replace, but if it works, we're not going to have to buy a new oven!
Oh, man...
It's a lovely, lovely evening here. I've had my balcony door open, with the screen across to keep out West Nile Mosquitos, but the breeze has been airing the place out and keeping it cool.
The downstairs people just got home and came out on their balcony to smoke. I don't know if they use weird cigarrettes or something but I've been very sensitive to their smoke since I moved in. (Actually, I've been having a lot of air quality issues. Hmmm). It just started floating in here...
So I shut the door. I really, really wish there was a way for smokers and nonsmokers to share a world without inconveniencing each other. I'd like to have my door open, but they'd like to smoke. I guess it's less of an imposition for me to have my door closed than for them to go without tobacco... but it seems like a shame. Why am I so sensitive all of a sudden?
Heh, my cooking appliances, 9 times out of 10, are some combination of the electric wok, the George Foreman grill, and the steamer. Oh, plus the crockpot. I've used my oven once so far. I use the stove to cook omelets.
I've had mostly meat every day, but I bought $50 at Wal-Mart and it's going to last close to a month! I'm really surprised at how many meals I get out of things.
Bear; nice load of pulp sticks. I think g'nad is the choker type. No p#ck#r poles on his place.
Thought you said that earlier, Upper-Upper right? :-)
Legend has it the skidder was invented in Canada by grad students for their practical. Good story anyway.
I'm a smoker as you know, but I don't like the smell (go figure!).
What I do to keep the smell out of the house is to set a fan by the door blowing outwards. It should work for you too!!
I don't know why it's bothering you more....unless it's not cigarettes at all.
I KNOW! Go sit by the door and enhale the smoke for a few minutes. If you're suddenly hankering for a tuna fish and Dorito sandwich with a root beer float on the side, chances are it's pot you're smelling. *laughing*
I just figure if we're gonna fire up the Road Grill, we might as well cook A LOT! It gets eaten! Steve cooked chicken, polish sausages and STACKS of hamburgers a while back and we just ate on it all week, the boys and I! Makes my life much easier to just toss something together for us when Dad isn't home...and he has a steady lunch supply to put together quickly.
That was my very first thought. LOL
Must be a sutherner...or a dwarf...
Maybe a suthern dwarf.
Oh, I told them when they wanted me that my hours are flexible, except for Sunday morning. If they need me to do a server upgrade at 8 pm, I just won't be at work at 8 am.
Fortunately everyone understands that school comes before anything else.
If it stinks to high heavens, it's probably pot.
When I started readin' that post, I thought it was Ruthy talkin'. I'm thinkin' OMG, there's a hurricane comin' and she's tryin' tuh feed it...
