The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You know, there were studies done several years ago showing a connection between working a technical helpdesk and female infertility.

I know the first time I did this, I just about lost my itty bitty mind. This time around, I'm a lot more blasé ...

Hey ksen, if you find the Fork version of 44, would you give me a link? For some reason I think something may have been badly mistranslated in the S-S version I downloaded.

The Fork version is up over at the SuperNova.org site.

http://www.suprnova.org/

Oh, yeah, and there's no episode this week!!!!

GAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Yep... we're scheduled to have that installed just as the semester's beginning. Which seems to mean bad things, like on top of the hundreds of whining people wondering why they can't get into their accounts, and the network crashing from too many people trying to download mp3s, we get happy Microsoft fun. Woo-hoo.

Good night everyone!

When's your XPSP2 rollout?

And no one seems to know what happens when XPSP2's firewall hits McAfee's, or Norton's, or Zone Alarm ...

Gah is right. How will we survive?

I actually just finished watching the Fork. Have all of their subs been such low-quality video? All in all I think they did a better job of subtitling than S-S, but not as good as Spoon. There were a couple bits in the other version that just didn't make sense, but they did in the Fork.

Sigh... but of course they must use harsh swear words instead of mild ones... sigh....

Ok, how am I to survive two weeks without new FMA? Especially when the end of 44 was so mind-blowing on many levels?

Wait 'till Mamma and Daddy call you from a thousand miles away because their darling child can't get their new computer onto the school's network. Mamma's crying, Daddy's cussing (or vice versa), and the kid, who couldn't care less, is nowhere to be found.

Nothing like tech support to validate your closely-held belief that people are basically stupid ...

Actually, I just manage computers and accounts for our department. So, it's mostly faculty who'll be yelling. That's worse. But there's a staff-guy who'll take most of the blame, and I'm the junior Windows maintenance chick, anyway.

Oh, I'm the first girl to have this job. I'm getting some seriously impressed vibes from my male co-workers so far. Especially since I'm a geek too, some of the female grad students aren't.

Ksen, I've got a five-step FMA withdrawal program you should try:

1. Go to downloadanime.org
2. Find Samurai 7
3. Download all six subbed episodes
4. Watch
5. Go into double-withdrawal because now there are two series to love and Samurai 7 shows only two eps a month...

Oh, yeah, and when you do, tell me if you recognize Katsushiro's voice...

Hopefully, none of it will spill over on you ... <she said doubtfully ...>

Techie-girls are always in demand in the world of techie-men. So have you met any of these non-geeky girl-types?

I'm currently living in fear of SP2, mainly due to my innate fear of anything "new" from up there at the "Lazy M Ranch".

Its installed on about half of my IT staff machines, with little apparent harm, and very soon now it will start appearing on user machines, because we told them [sigh] to pretty much always accept updates. I have no idea what sort of monster I've created here.

If I'm still posting tomorrow, then it was no big deal. If it takes me a few days to reply, then it means that I'm now a Wal-Mart greeter and my new screen name will be different. :-)

Why do you think I'm in CS anyway? ;-)

So have you met any of these non-geeky girl-types?

When I came out to visit the school, two of the three girls I met were non-geeks. Nice, but not geeks. So far I've only met one girl at the department, since the semester hasn't started. She discovered I liked anime, discovered I was watching some she was watching, glommed me, and tried to get me to help her commandeer a room and a projecter for anime-lock-in-night.

You ae wise, Master Sea-man ... as well we all know, "new" = "bad."

It won't start corrupting data until it's well-entrenched in our lives.

Hey ... paranoid keeps you alive!

I just downloaded a whole raft of documents on XPSP2 from MS and forwarded them to my email box at work ... had to, 'cause our IT department thinks certain MS sites are "chat" and have blocked our access to them.

Some days, I wonder if they really want me to do this job!

I'm over time ... goodnight, all!

There's some mighty freaky stuff out there under your imprimatur ...! <laughing!>
