[Soaring Feather]

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

"Lights Out"

I walked by the darkened place
A room that once held my light
My soul, my joy, my honor
And where I once held you.

The room was our sanctuary
Your light mingled with mine
Your eyes, your heart, your lips
And where you once loved me.

Your back is now turned to me
The ring you wore, is God knows where
Your heart filled, mine torn asunder
And our sanctuary is dark.

From where comes the strength to deny?
And why, after time, do you now?
I know him not, I don't want to know
Why you have extinguished my light.

The sanctuary held a lover's hope
a life of living two as one
the light dimmed we know not why
eyes drifted away
was it in the light of day
or the soft dimmed light of dusk
when the light went out
and took with it my will to live
you did not want what I had to give

And drowned the lover's dream
in salty tears and cry me a river
has been done
saying goodbye
has not been fun

the dawn of my day
the blackest of my nights
do not compare to lights out
now that you're not here...

I am a smith,
and my tools are many,
the sword and the shield,
the armor and the greaves
gauntlets on my hands, to help
face the gauntlet of the foes.

The smith pauses in his craft,
but for a while, for a time,
to wash clean the body and
the soul.

The contest of arms,
Ah! There is no finer honor,
no greater test of might,
or skill, or courage, and I
strive to meet this test.

For, what other, better thing shall be
than the winning of the honor of
your forever loving me?

Crafty is his handy work
clever in his trade
gifted in his philosophy
keen in the delivery
master in his realm
plotting the pathway
to the stars

A Knight of space art thou
my love -soft in temper as a
turtle dove
Wealthy in the way of love
and blessed in patience
for your Lady love...

I have a very hard time writing poetry. It only seems to work for me when I'm feeling a strong emotion about something. I look at the works of people like Shel Silverstein -- or Sarge whom I once challenged to write a poem about dust and he DID IT! -- or Ms. FEather who can "dance" with anyone and I am just in awe!!
