The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I know.... I just no longer have ambition to have a yuppie stress job. I don't want an increasingly responsible resume. I don't want to get promoted into anything else. I want to run a boarding stable. My current job would allow for that when the time comes. I don't want to burn that bridge.

Sounds just like me.

All things considered... I'd trade my current job for something close to home at a fraction of my salary. In a heartbeat. Nothing in life is ever really about money. It's about being happy in what you do.

There's a part of me that would like to go back to school for fisheries biology, or something like that. I'd like to do something useful. Whatever I'm doing now might be rewarding in merely fiscal sense, but nothing about our VPN network and however cool it might be will ever be historically significant.

It's almost 1 o'clock in the morning here, so I'd better get to bed. I gots to go to that ~place~ tomorrow. You know, the one that requires me to drive in horrible traffic and deal with rude clients?

*grin* Just kidding!

Seriously sis, check it out and go with your gut.

I wish I had the means to get up there and use the buddy system to get the boarding stable idea up and running. Sounds a wonderful plan with long-term happiness as the goal.

Do what you gotta do to get there, chica. Even if you have to sell Avon or something. I'm good for a few purchases a month if'n you need 'em! (((HAIR)))

OK Ramius, I won't say another word for fear you'll strangle me the next time you see me! (((RAMIUS)))

Good night (again)!!

I don't think I am the Avon type ;~D

Good night everyone, and thanks for the attention to my details! I am gonna hit the couch with my honey!

Good morning! I'm here. I just wanted to work on clearing out my desk before I got settled in.

Wow, I'm almost about to leave home, for real.

Yikes! Last [full] day in PA?

How long of a drive is it? Are you stopping much on the way?

Mornin' folks. Nasty storm knocked out the cable last night. It's still out.

When I left here the heavens opened up. By the time I walked to the car, even with my umbrella (now deceased), I was soaked thru. Drove home thru multiple areas of standing water, non-functioning traffic lights and avoiding what appeared to be every fire/rescue unit in the city. Saw one ladder truck followed by another truck pulling the pontoon boats heading towards the river. Haven't heard of any rescue news, but there are always kayakers out on the river.

Gots lots to do today and am fearful that I'll be called into another useless meeting with the idiots. This one is ABOUT a meeting that is scheduled for September that the boss wants to reschedule for October, but the chair doesn't...sigh...I don't care. Just decide and send me an email.

Gonna try to catch up on the mini dramas first...

Yes, we leave tomorrow at some point... it's about a 24-hour drive. We hope to get something like 8 hours tomorrow, a lot more on Friday, and hopefully be at the place by ten on Saturday morning to move me in.

Tonight Dad's renting the trailer and we're going to try to get the furniture in. Tomorrow morning, the bothers and I load up the boxes... sigh... I am gonna miss them sometimes. I just wish the weather were better, I'd like to have one of those lovely days we don't get that often to remember.

Yikes...sounds like the rain we got Friday. It didn't last very long, but washed out a lot of areas and caused some flash floods.

It's just your Dad going, right? And is he going to stay a little while and help you settle in and then fly back?

Or are you taking two vehicles?

Mom's coming too. We're taking two cars, mine and the big SUV, to pull the trailer. They'll stay til Monday or so and then drive back.

Since the SUV is the only car that my sister can drive (the others are stickshifts) we had to borrow one from a family friend so they aren't stuck for a week. She's thrilled, she gets to drive a small car for the first time either.

Sorry I missed the jobness discussions. Hair, you could always give it a try for a couple of weeks. Seems to me it could be a "trial basis" on both sides.

That said, I hated commuting from Arlington to Richmond. BUT, that was two hours each way. I did that four about four months until we could move.
