The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh dear God... I'm watching, but in caption mode.

Be thankful... at least you don't have to listen to her hoity-toity blue-blood "I'm better than you" accent.

Yeah, she seems rather... medicated.

It's not the medication, it's the shock collar they put on her after her little "loose cannon" outburst the other day. Somewhere off stage there a guy with his finger on a button. Be careful to watch if she starts to go too far off the reservation... she'll twitch, and get back on track. :-) Doubt me? Look at the super high collar on that red dress she's wearing. That's just to hide the electrodes. :-)

Sheesh! They shoulda used the shock collar a bit more often. I flipped over to Fox for a moment to see what she looked like and nearly fell into a catatonic state.

Did I really just hear what I though I heard her say? "Global climate change will be reversed."

Holeysmokes! I was looking away... did she really say that?

Kindof interesting, really... how does one "reverse" a "change"? By... *not* changing??? Or... will it just change everywhere in the other direction from how it might be changing now? Is that better? Are we sure that's better? What if things are changing in a pretty much good way? Isn't the other way worse? [brain fry]

Well...boy, that is a wheel-barrow full of decisions. It shouldn't be a problem to ask for 4-10's (but you will feel plenty tired on that drive home at night)...but I have been quite surprised about my experiences with city governments -- how strangely inflexible and stuck in their ways they can be. If they've done it before, usually there's no problem, if they haven't, it's like you've asked for a Beamer convertible as a take-home car.

City governments are chaotic (no, it's not just Tacoma), and they can be tough places to come new into -- most people seem to have been with their one job in cities damn near since they were out of the cradle. So they get parochial and inbred. They seem cold and unfriendly at first to "outsiders" coming in.

OK, that's the bad. The good is they still have great benefits and pretty darn good pay. It's amazing that that other person didn't work -- must've have left on their own -- because it's damn hard to get let go from cities.

It's hard to make the switch in pace to cities, they're pretty busy all the time. I'm mentally tired a lot more than I was working for the state. Personally, I'd caution against working 4-10's and then working another job too. I think that'd burn a person out very quickly. And don't forget the drive time. That's too much...you've got to have some down time. And it's going to be more than an hour drive time -- the roads (especially the freeways) are not good, the evenings getting through Tacoma are the worst.

Why not a try out and just see how you like it...though don't give up on it too easy -- I didn't really feel like I had the stride with my job until about 7 months in. Give it a little time, just to see if it's possible for you to do it and live somewhat normally.

You watched Amazing Race? We just got done... before that, the sisters and I went to see "Bourne Supremacy". Another great free movie! But seriously, it had a couple really good action scenes and some stuff I didn't expect..

Yawn, better get to bed. I've got a lot to do tomorrow.

By the look of the live thread, it would seem that Tah-Ray-Zah is being hacked up pretty good by the punditry. Even on CNN.

Yep, we watched it. The caviar roadblock was fun to watch... one of the toughest roadblocks they've had, I think.

Have a good night!

Evenin'

Pleasantly warm, just got in from finishing the trench for my back yard's third and final drain. Going to Lowe's tomorrow for sand and pebbles to finish the installation. At least I'm getting some workout with the nasty project. Gonna go to the horse races this coming weekend. Wife's gonna win some money.

The person is being let go tonight I think. She was a temp, like I will be, on 60 day trial basis, so she's easy to let go. I am supposed to get some information from the placement agency about what the exact problem was that will help me from making the same mistake.

I am pretty spoiled working at home. My schedule is my own and my boss leaves me alone. By description, this woman sounds tough. Getting out would be good because it would recharge my work ethic that has slopped a bit, but on the other hand, a job like this would be my whole waking life. I don't know if I want that! I have a pretty good life already.

If ecurbh and I were starting out even, I'd say no way to the new job. But we could sure use the money of higher pay to get back to even. You're right. I can't do both jobs and do either very well. Unless perhaps They really don't ~need~ it to be full time.

I have a couple days to think.

False alarm. I thought Alyson was gonna start fussing, but she just wanted me to put a fresh tape on for her.

Now, she's rolled herself up in her blanket and looks like she's finally ready to fall asleep. Thanks goodness!
