The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm gonna fill my day with positive things...I am gonna wash my hair and then really clean the house (it's fallen a bit behind the last few days.)

I'm proud of my video taping...it's not really taping what I need, because it's not being broadcast yet...but it's taping at the appropriate times. I just tape like the classes are being broadcast...just to get into the habit.

By the end of Sunday, I've taped a weeks worth of 10 classes.

Right...there are a lot of references to events in the liturgical year, and things happening "a week after St. John's Mass", etc. Probably a calendar of medieval holy days would be helpful. I know a lot of them, but there are saints that were more celebrated then than now, so I've had to look some up too.

Yes indeed I told him! I also told him last night that I never minded him the way he was before but that I knew he was happier now.

He says people at work are all the time talking about it, now.

Hey, Jen...didn't you and I talk about AAA a while back? Did I tell you I got it a few months ago? Steve kinda scoffed at me about it.

He had a blowout last night on the way home from school!!! He tried to fix it but it was getting dark and he couldn't see. Someone stopped and let him use their cellphone, and he called AAA (from the number on the card that I gave him and he had just rolled his eyes...)and they came right out and fixed it!

He told the guy that came out to help him "I thought my wife was silly for getting this...turned out to not be such a bad idea!"

Ha! See, one little incident and it pays for itself!

My car has roadside assistance, not AAA but the same basic thing, and I'm so glad it does. As long as I carry my cell phone around, any problem I have they can handle.

He was pretty pleased...made me feel good. I made a good decision! I may make a whole bunch of really doofy decisions, (plastic-lined room, floatation devices in the minivan), but this was a good'un!

Nah, it's not stupid... when I move, I'm going to have an emergency-supplies box in my pantry. Just in case. Probably no plastic-lined room, though.

Remember, be prepared, and better safe than sorry.

We ate up all our emergency supplies...

I need to get that set back up again. We have water.

I figure water's the most important. Especially now that I'm moving to CO - you get dehydrated really quickly out there. Add a couple boxes of granola bars and a flashlight and I'm set.

That's good to get into the habit of the taping and work out any bugs in the process before you really need it!

"I thought my wife was silly for getting this...turned out to not be such a bad idea!"

There you go!!

I LOVE AAA! The last year we had our land yacht (1993 GMC Vandura High Top Conversion Van) I ended up calling them three or four times because of problems we had with the starter, battery, etc. I had to call them twice this year to change out a tire that was flat. I must have driven through some rough spots because in both instances there was some sort of trash in the tire and I ended up having to get new ones!

I've never learned how to change a tire; probably should. We're gonna have Clare's Girl Scout troop do their Car Sense badge this year and they'll learn how to change the oil, change a flat, do minor maintenance etc. I just laughed when the other leader suggested it, because I call AAA when there's an emergency, and go to the mechanic for the other stuff. There's things I'll do myself and things I'll let the professionals do; car stuff is in the latter category!

Yeah, I know enough about cars to know I don't know anything. I think that's ok, though, I can't be expected to be able to do everything. If I have to pay to have my oil changed, well, I'll live with that.

I hope I never have to change a tire. I know how, I have swapped out tires for snow tires and that kind of thing. I've never tried to get the spare out from under this truck, and I know it was a hassle in my old truck (and we can only hope it actually isn't flat too). I would emphasize the importance of checking and inflating the spare, because most girls especially will never think to do that.

And I actually ~have~ changed my own oil.... it just doesn't pay to do it. The Jiffy Lube type places do it cheaply and without having to deal with the mess. Where to take 6 quarts of dirty oil and your dirty oil filter is no small matter. Let ~them~ deal with it.

I know how to put windshield washer fluid in...

I'm perfectly happy with letting someone else doing everything else!

The other advantage of the Jiffy Lube places is that they check and top off all the other fluid levels. All in all, I don't see why anyone would change their own oil. :~D

Yep, two trips to the Jiffy Lube every year does most things. I get the synthetic, not entirely sure why but my dad told me to always use that, but it means I only need new oil every 6000 miles.

One of the first things I do after moving will have to be get an oil change. I actually will need one around Kansas, but I should be ok.

I think we just got a similar place not that far away.

Heh...we just had a hound wander in, of his own accord. I heard a collar jingling and thought it was someone with keys, but them he came on in!

He had a tag for http://www.getmehome.com. Pretty neat...you put in the number and it tells you the dog's name and the owner's phone number. They're coming to get him in a few minutes.

Meanwhile, of all the places in the office, he's decided he'd like to sleep at my feet. Sweet little guy...too bad he smells like a hound!

I've wondered sometimes if it's worth switching to synthetic with an older car...probably not, but not having to deal with it as often sounds nice!
