Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You're OK as long as you don't say "bungle" or "dufus" as any part of the meeting.

ah ha...reason I asked is that the latest play by Fort Bend Theater is Neil Simon's "Fools" which is set in a Russian village. I didnt make the cut, but from what I remember of the tryouts, the people who did make it are going to be HILARIOUS. am gonna try and go see it soon.

Fedora, thanks once again for all your information. The book suggestions are by far the best advice I have gotten in this quest. I wasnt quite sure where to start.

My latest in LJ

I forgot to mention that I have some new wall decor in my office. It's a newspaper with a picture of Air Force 1 flying in and Mt. Rainier in the background.... just above some headline about bungling! ~grin~

"I prefer the reconstructive history type stories. Not that I've found the perfect one yet. Keep certain elements - Excaliber, the round table, the knights (some of them; Lancelot's right out but Gawain, Gareth, Cai, Bors, Rhys Bedwyr, etcetera are more fun anyway) but don't make it high middle ages. It's the opening of the dark ages, fer cryin' out loud."

I agree, LOL! That's one thing I'd be looking for, too: whether they got the armor and weapons right for the Early Middle Ages or whether they had post-Crusades anachronisms thrown in.

BTW have you ever seen "Excalibur" with Jean-Luc Picard in it? :) How'd you like that?
