Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ice Cream in a Can

1 cup whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 lb coffee with lid
1 lb coffee with lid
salt
ice
STEP BY STEP:
Mix ingredients in smaller coffee can.
Put top on smaller can. Put smaller can in larger can, add ice and salt in layers.
Put top on larger can. Roll can on flat surface. It will take approximatly 30 minutes.
When the ice starts to melt, replace it and add more salt. Scrape down sides of smaller can every ten min until firm.

Did you see my post about the blueberries? They are "pick your own" and this fella just sits out under a canopy thing with a scale and cash register and a whole pile of plastic buckets...

He said in 8 years he's only had one bad check.

If they don't get you an ice cream recipe I'll get you one after while. I have a good one. Just went to get it though and it's not where I thought it might be. Would have to do search and rescue and just got home from work. Going through 3 weeks worth of mail just now.

Here's the book I was trying to remember:

Dharma Singh Khalsa, Food As Medicine: How to Use Diet, Vitamins, Juices, and Herbs for a Healthier, Happier, and Longer Life

I don't remember if it said anything about food for joint pain, but it's a place to look.

Yea, we picked our own too. The blueberry farm has been for sale here for a few years (just sold a month ago)and last year we joked about buying it (tried to get the grandparents to move here and live in the house that is on the property)...it would have been fun. We picked about $20 worth at $1.69 per lb. I want to make a triberry jam with them, the blackberries and some strawberries.

don't kill yourself looking for the receipe...I know how it is when you've had a long day. All else fails and I'll use the one out of the cookbook...just wondered if anyone had one that was really vey good.

I just got an email purporting to be from Amazon.com which I suspect is a scam. Has anyone else heard of a scam involving this email? I see there are Amazon.com-related scam emails mentioned here:

I'm wondering if this email I just got is a similar scam. Text below, minus links.

Got another prayer request.

When I went next door to get the mail from my neighbors I found out they had to call an ambulance to pick up the man of the house at noon today. He has had many heart problems and this is his heart. He's in the hospital here now and they can't get his BP to come up to an acceptable level.

I told 'em I'd send out prayer alerts.

I have a baby sling in which I place Abigail and "wear" her. It's called a Maya wrap. I love it, but right now it is in the wash. So, I am using a flat sheet from the linens, LOL! I'm wearing her as we speak (well, it makes it so I can type, really).

I saw 2J's recipe. I think it would work for ya.

I haven't had an ice cream freezer in several years but I used to just have mine from memory. I don't think it's all there anymore but I remember *most* of it I think.

You use 4 eggs, a can of Eagle Brand Milk, a can of regular evaporated milk, a pint of cream or half and half (I always used extra) sugar, vanilla - beat it all up put it in the ice cream freezer then fill the freezer with regular whole milk. Only thing is, I forgot how much sugar you use. And the vanilla I think was 2 Tablespoons but I'm not sure exactly as I used to just dump that in not measure.
