Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Soup is wrong. I dislike it for many reasons. For one, I like to keep food and drink seperate. For another, it combines too many different things, and then gets it all wet. There's a texture thing going for me - I've always had problems with certain consistencies. I can't eat oatmeal, or pudding, or yogurt, either.

I'm happy that other people like soup, but it's not for me. Heh, starting next month, I intend to never eat soup, stew or chili again.

I have that problem with oatmeal--for some reason food with no texture really bothers me. With soup I usually put something solid like crackers in to give it some texture.

Hmmm--lembas soup. . . :)

Need to get my morning stance practice in here--back shortly.

Trust me, oatmeal does not have no texture. It has the texture of stuff that clings to the top of the throat and makes me ill.

Jen, if you're doing the "lazy-Atkins", then I was doing the super-lazy Atkins.

I noticed a tremendous difference when I first started by simply cutting out breads (pastries too). Then I moved on and cut out potatoes (only white ones...still eat yams) and white rice (still eat brown...in moderation).

It was more of a gradual process, but it worked very well. I got lazy a few months ago and put some of the weight back on, so I need to re-motivate myself in the very near future.

I tell you though, one of the major differences (aside from my energy level going way up), was the complete and total lack of heartburn. Before I went low-carb, I was getting heartburn several times a day and chugging antacids like there was no tomorrow. After only a few weeks "bread, rice, and potato free" it was nearly completely gone!

Now that the garden veggies have started to come in, and I'll be getting some prime cuts from my uncle's "summer butchering", I'll be ready to get back into the swing of things in the next few weeks.

Just learned there's a fire across the street from my brother's house. My brother and his wife don't seem to be affected so far, but prayers will be appreciated for their safety as well as for the affected house.

I get it at Walmart in the coffee section.

I gotta go over there to get Paul's contact lenses, so I'll see if our store sells it. We don't have the Super Store that sells all the groceries, as well. I wish we did; I love those stores!

I admit to liking Hormel chili, I like that canned flavor it has.

You can order it from the company...it's reasonable, but you have to pay for the shipping...

That is EXACTLY what I've noticed too!! PTL I have my stomach under control for the first time in years!! And I mean my whole digestive system. My whole system was in havoc for YEARS and I just suddenly noticed one day after being on Atkins for about 6 weeks that I was completely settled down in that regard. No more irritable bowel...no more acid reflux.

Ask Hair what happened when I went OFF Atkins while on vacation in Washington. It was awful...my gut was full of air and at one point I was so embarrassed because I had to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes or so...it was awful and reminded me of how I was BEFORE low-carb.

I went back on Atkins as soon as I got home...noticed a big improvement within two days and was back to my comfortable self in about a week.

Looking back, I woulda stuck with Atkins had I known it would give me such a setback. But they were ordering pizza and well, the cod was really great...and I was afraid they'd think I was silly because I really don't need to loose weight...

But now, after those few days...I'm sold on low-carb not for weight-loss reasons, but for my own digestive health.

Well, except for that cod. It was WORTH IT!!!!

Well, I think you were probably unsettled because you took an Oklahoma stomach and fed it cod, salmon, oysters, clams and crab all in the same night. ;~D

Well, yeah...stuffing myself to the gullet was probably another reason...I think my pour stomach had a nervous breakdown that evening! LOL

Thanks for the prayers. The fire is under control, though the family that lives in the house will have to stay out of it for a while yet, they've been told. This is the second fire they've had in the immediate area within the past few weeks. It's in a wooded area in California where they've been having a drought (ironically while other parts of the country have had flooding), so it's very dry and there's a high risk of fire. Fortunately there's a fire department less than a mile away (this is right by the Lucasfilm ranch, which has its own fire department).
