Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

LOL By then, it didn't have the bugs in it...I did get them all out. I just couldn't eat the berries afterward! LOL Purely psychological.

"A little brown rice, maybe. Rice is high in carbs."

I used to buy brown rice in bulk. It was pretty cheap that way.

No broccoli on Atkins, either? Otherwise you could mix brown rice and broccoli in a stir fry. . .

(Why do I find myself getting hungry on this thread. . .? :)

I can't really think of ANY vegetables or fruits I don't like...so I'm not sure how long I could stick to pure Atkins. I know you can have vegetables at all stages...but have to measure.

Oh, you can have brocoli. It's good for you.

I know how that goes :) I have a similar problem eating oatmeal. I didn't like it as a kid and as an adult if I take a bite of it I suddenly get these memories of eating it as a kid and I literally can't eat it. Also had that happen with chicken dumplings once.

I kind of do lazy-Atkins. I eat mostly meat/protein, with vegetables. I only eat peppers, brocoli, green beans, or salad, and I eat as much of those as I want. With dinner I'll sometimes have a little rice, if the meal isn't too high in carbs.

When I'm on my own, I shall have to watch things more carefully. Ah... put scale on to-buy list.

Same here :) I could get by on a vegetarian diet--did that for a while, actually.

It's vey good for you! Tastes good, too--especially in melted cheese. . .which I'm going to guess wouldn't fit into Atkins very well, though! :)

No, that's perfect! Overly processed cheeses aren't allowed, like velveeta, but cheddar and colby and swiss and all the like are allowed. A baked brocoli and cheese dish would be perfect!

"I kind of do lazy-Atkins."

How much of what you've lost do you think is from Atkins and how much is from exercising?

Hey, I actually had a good idea, LOL! Colby or Swiss--that does sound perfect! But then if it was me I'd want to put that on a baked potato, which would be very un-Atkins-like :) Hmmm--what to substitute for the baked potato. . .

BTW what kind of soups can you have with Atkins? Seems like the above requires a soup appetizer! (I'm starting to anticipate lunch here, in case you can't tell :)

I have no clue. First large bit was Atkins. Or probably more accurately, cutting out the junk.

Why would one want to eat soup?

I'm the perfect Atkins dieter. I'd be quite happy to eat large chunks of meat for the rest of my life.

What's the deal with OT and Velveeta? :) Hey, anyone ever seen what Velveeta looks like before they add the coloring? I've heard it initially looks clear like plastic [shudder!]

I think cutting out the junk was a big part of it for me. Anyway, the reason I ask is because I'm just wondering, now that you've lost so much, if you'll stay there if you get off the Atkins and just continue to eat healthy and exercise enough to maintain where you are.

Not even cheese, if I remember right. It's labeled as "cheese food product".

Whatever that is.

Well, first of all you can put meat in soup :) For instance my Grandma's Irish stew recipe is awesome. . .

But as to why to eat soup: When I go out to eat I always like to have soup before a meal because it warms the digestive system up--both literally and figuratively. Also I like spicy food, and there's stuff you can do with soup and spices that are amazing--spicy Thai soup is one of the best things I've ever eaten. Soup also adds flavor to certain other foods which you can't get from that food alone--with a baked potato like I was envisioning above a soup like cream of broccoli is especially good. Finally many soups have medicinal value, like chicken soup, which is another reason I like to eat soup.
