Special Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Our Fourth was rather damp- which meant we got a splendid night sleep. The neighbors will have to wait for another night for the proof-of-manhood ritual of setting off fireworks at 2 am.
We're off to get the pups from the kennel this morning- hope they still love us. The cats plumb forgot who we were and were quite annoyed to be disturbed. I think they'll be giving us dirty looks for several days yet.
Wet weather required me to help a cousin with some emergency roof-work. We decided that it was better than even money the city cancelled fireworks due to weather, and I was so beat anyway I just came home and crashed. Didn't even stay up to watch the shows televised from Boston, DC etc.
The weather is supposed to be cool but dry today, and I may venture out and see wassup.
Morning All: Plenty of fireworks last night, Mother Nature's kind as well as the local variety. LSA informed me of the thunderstorm over coffee, looks like I missed it again. sigh.
Rain supposed to be over soon. But it's time to have some eggeses and bacons with english muffins and marmalade.
Well the British Navy used to have a 'rum ration'. Reckon the Army has something similar?
We had fireworks last night - lots far away, none that were too bad too close. The two neighbors that fired into my pasture last year were both silent.... they went somewhere this year, I suppose, and I am glad.
Other neighbors had some pretty fancy rockets, we sat out in the pasture and watched awhile. :~D
In a couple weeks, I'll actually get to go to a show, our city fair will have fireworks at the end, and we get to go to that one!
Bacons? Mmmmmmm...
Can't decide what to have for breakfast.
Bacon? Do I smell breakfast? Okay, I'm up, I'm up. No promises on coherency. No one has made coffee yet.
Mornin' folks.
Storm knocked me off line last night so I didn't bother resetting things until this morning to get back on. Been out already pickin' up the used bottle rockets in our front yard. Not bad, just a few.
Today is clean sweep day for Jr's room, although Dad does not intend to be involved. Told him last night that if it wasn't done today, I'd be driving back up to IKEA next Saturday to return the stuff.
He knows how much I spent. I think he may have heard me this time.
Need some coffee too.
tagline fix...
Morning. It's supposed to be a day off but Mom's on the warpath. Better go find out why.
I hope everyone had a great Independence Day (despite the inclement weather, as some of you have posted)! We had excellent weather here yesterday. High 80's, sunny, light breeze...just perfect for grillin', swimmin', and sittin'.
Given that one of my brothers isn't speaking to any of us, we had a bit of a small crowd at my house. Just us three, my mom, and my younger brother and his girlfriend. Oh well, it was quiet, peaceful, and relaxing all the same.
Autumn was swimming most of the day,
and actually fell asleep during the fireworks...she was so worn out! But a patriot nonetheless!
The church service went VERY well yesterday morning! Saturday night, we had a Youth Group meeting, and 5 of the kids asked if they could be a part of the service. So, I shortened my sermon to about 10 minutes, used half of it as in Invocation and Call to Worship, the other half for the sermon itself, and we came up with a way for them to participate.
I had each of them select a verse or passage from the Bible that was important to them. They would then recite the passage, and explain why they felt it was important. They did a fantastic job...and if this is what it takes for them to get interested in church, then so be it. Up until this point, I've had a very tough time getting them involved, due to the "archaic" nature of our church.
(BTW - does anyone have any idea how I could transfer the video tape from yesterday's sermon to a digital file that I can put online?)
As a side note, the church President approached me after the service yesterday and said that I "looked very comfortable up there", and was "grateful that they now have someone else who can fill in for the Pastor".
Normally, I would take this as a compliment, but honestly, it disturbed me a little bit, as he's not the first person to say something along those lines. My own pastor himself asked me about 3 months ago if I've ever considered going into the Ministry full-time. I told him that I'd put it to prayer, and since then, I've had a handful of other people tell me, or ask me, something along those same lines.
I don't know. I honestly wouldn't even know where to begin looking into something like that. So, I'll just keep praying about it, and see where I'm directed.
Meanwhile, it's raining pretty steadily here today, so I think we're just going to stay put for the remainder of the day.
Hang in there Jen.

If you firgure it out, let us know. Or we will if we look into it first. We'd like to do the same for our weddin' tape.
ANSWER: So, I'll just keep praying about it, and see where I'm directed.
Glad it went well Seamus. There are many more types of ministry than preaching. But just take it slow and let Him lead you.
I can show you the credit card receipt for the stuff I bought. Plus we haven't been to buy the paint yet.
There is no oppression involved. There is however redistribution of "wealth" from my pocket to his room.
It was my birthday. We didn't buy anything for me.
Oh come on! Everything is oppression! I remember bein' a teenager!
~grin~
I got some lawn to mow, and will be looking for some "oppressees" to help!
Yeah, I reckon you're right. He don't even get it when we talk about his grades tellin' him we're tryin' to save his sorry butt...
I can send Jr. to mow your lawn, if'n you don't mind it only bein' about 85% mowed. He's quick, but not thorough...
