Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, I'm back!

Nice new digs, and Dubya coming thru the front door; it's great!

Got in a little while ago from the trip to MS and the Girl Cousin Reunion. It was fun, as always, but I'm fixing to go to bed! I only slept one hour the night before I left, and I only slept one hour LAST night before coming back. I need SLEEP!

Talk to y'all later!

Lupin's mustache was bad. So was the werewolf. Sirius wasn't too bad at all.

Lupin was all wrong, in my book - not just the mustache, though that was particularly off. And the werewolf...what were they thinking? In the book, werewolves are enough like true wolves that they had 'em learning a list of ways to tell them apart. Wouldn't need any such thing for that...whatever it was in the movie! Ugh.

But I liked Sirius. Wasn't how I had him pictured, but...not bad. What was with all the tatoos, though?

Hey...we just got back from a day up at Emerald Downs!

The wife is unbelievable...she got a payout on every single race! She's got a system (I can't give it away, she'll have my behind), and darn if she doesn't make money on every race. It's amazing. 4 times in row she picked the horse that finished third in the race (show). She doesn't win huge amounts, but she gets money every race. Incredible. I don't even try to pick 'em anymore, I just bet on who she tells me to bet on and how.

It was a gorgeous day, and even after paying for food, espresso, parking and beer, I came out with as much money as I went in with...because of the wife's picking.

Evenin' folks. Just some general pingages...

Pastor's sermon this a.m. was "Remember the Sabbath Day and Keep it Holy." So Jr. and I came home and worked in the yard. I figured I could tell him my ass er ox was in the ditch. If that didn't work I'd try quoting "the Earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof..."

Actually, he wasn't legalistic about it. Which is pretty amazing for a pentecostal church.

Got lots done. Got most of the repair work done on the play fort so it's playable now. Well, except for the tire swing (a plastic one, not a real tire). It was too close to the ground for Luke. Dad overcompensated on cutting the cable. So I gotta buy a new one...

It wasn't exactly a Corin day, these are all somewhat tangential to our family, but a lot going on with need for prayer.

* Talked to the Mrs. Friday night. She was doing well, but I could tell she was tired. Four of the women however were not doing well. The contracted salmonella from a restaurant in Paris. One of the women has been in the hospital the whole time in Slovakia. Prayer request today was that they be well enough to travel home with the group tomorrow.

* S-i-l that had Luke and Nana (last week) was in Ohio this weekend for stepson's wedding. Last night had an episode with her heart. They have not said yet it was an attack, maybe just blockage. But she's still there and they'll be running tests tomorrow. I just talked to her and she sounds like she's in good spirits, considering.

* Worst news we got tonite. Luke's Wednesday night teacher, a mother of four kids (6 and under), went to the hospital Thursday. On the way there (her husband was taking her) she passed out. I don't know the exact prognosis, but she was pronounced brain dead yesterday and died today. Younger s-i-l was pretty close to her.

I'm right tired, I am...

Wow, Corin. The hits keep coming. :-(

I'll lift up all those folks in prayer, especially Luke's teacher, whose family must be crippled with grief.

Times like these, I just say...How long, O Lord?

Thanks Ruthy.

You know the women on the trip will get better. They may just be miserable for a while. And, this might be the wake-up call for the s-i-l to take better care of herself.

But I'm just blown away about the teacher (her name was Chris). Her husband is a good ol' boy police officer. We went to arch rival high schools (although he's several years younger) "back home." Our moms worked together, but we didn't meet until we got here.

My heart aches for him, and for those poor children.

Absolutely, regarding the double or single legal length doubles or singles, but I was wondering about the older vintage doubles, not the damascus variety as those have well discussed elsewhere. A friend has a couple of 20/12 adapters he uses in his grandads old shotgun.

I can't even begin to imagine how I could cope with such a loss. Chris' family will be on my mind, in my heart and delivered in my prayers tonight.

Corin; glad to hear your ox got unstuck.

Very sorry to hear about Luke's teacher, that is truly sad.

Too much rain here for gardening but got a few things done inside, including a nap.

Hi Ruthy...my wife is amazing at it. I don't even ask why anymore, I just bet how she tells me. I even try to predict which horse she'll bet on and how...and I can only get it about half the time, even after seeing how she does it.

Got a funny one for ya'll. My brother has a 2002 diesel Jetta TDI, 50 mph. If you give him a chance he'll remind you what good milage it gets.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving it and there was 1/8 tank so I filled it up. When I told him he said "Man, you could have driven another 100 miles on that."

Today he calls me from the interstate and asks me to "look up how to restart a diesel when you've run it out of fuel". Har!

Ha, he's gonna hear about this one for a while.

Sorry about the traveling wives and stomach trouble... Happens traveling sometimes!

But really a shame about that friend dying like that. Any clue as to what happened?

Good excuse to buy a "real" shotgun for around the house. The shorter range also helps in semi-built-up areas.

All I know is, I can go shoot up a couple boxes of shells on clay pigeons, and still move my arm afterwards! :~D My 12-guage-friends want to go have a beer and rest after one box. And my 20 is such a lovely gun.
