Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I gotta run up to the office for about 5 minutes. which of course is much longer since it takes 15 minutes to drive each way. Back in a bit.

We had beautiful sun this morning, then had a thunder boomer that went through about 2. It's gorgeous and sunny again now! Hope Clare and Joseph haven't had non-stop rain for the last two days!

Heh...I'd forgotten all about them being up this way! Hope they have warm cabins...it's chilly out there!

It's actually a bit nicer now. The sun is peeking out and it's about 60. I might actually do some garden work!

Hey, y'all remember the story a few weeks about the woman finding the mouse in her vegetable soup at Cracker Barrel? (happened in Newport News, Virginia) Cracker Barrel pulled the soup from all of its restaurants.

Turns out it was fraud. Tests on the mouse reveal that it died from a crushed skull and that it had no soup in its lungs.

It was sunny and seventy at lunch. Sun's gone away now. But at least I'm home! Had another commute with my dad, we discussed computer science. It's really nice to hear from him, that he thinks I have what it takes to be a good little programmer.

Now, what to do tonight?

Hey, I borrowed one of your shirts to wear to the office this afternoon! :-)

The green one - tank style that zips on the side.

I'm gonna start markin' your clothes so when you get ready to put 'em in your tri-annual garage sales you'll know which ones to save for me to buy! :-)

Potter ping: Just noticed A&E Biography will be doing a show on J.K. Rowling tonight at 7 CST, followed by a Potter special. BTW I picked up the first book today.

I had a rather dull day. It's realllllllly slow at work. But I read some of my book and posted here and talked to other on-line friends.

Now I'm making roasted veggies and chicken with ginger and garlic for dinner...then I gotta go to church for a bit before relaxing for the evening.

I also cleared another part of the soon-to-be garden, which is much harder than you'd think possible. But then...it's really rocky here, and it's thick grass and weeds that have never been cleared before, so it's understandable. It's like going out into a meadow somewhere and trying to till it with just a shovel - that's about what I'm doing! Good exercise, I guess.

Mmmm :) I had spicy chicken stir fry with cashew nuts, along with egg drop soup. Before that I wheelbarrowed a dozen loads full of heavy tiles downhill. Tempted to count that as my exercise for the day :) Sun is out today for the first time in a week and the garden is looking like the rain did it good. Herbs look like they doing nicely.
