Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

There were so many memorable things this week. It seemed surreal until today--like he was still with us as they showed all the old news footage. I guess today with the funeral the reality of it is sinking in for me.

I think, on the whole, this whole week has been just perfectly done. It was all just right, and every part of it needed to happen just as it was done.

Yes, I think everything was very well done. The liberal media tried their best to ruin it, but they failed because there were too many people who loved Reagan. I think his last great gift to us was reminding us of how we felt when he was President--that nostalgia will inspire many, I think. It has inspired me.

It's OK, Marine.

Very emotional picture. Makes me wish I could've attended the actual ceremonies--I'm sure the feelings I'm getting from watching it on TV are 1/10th of what it's like being there.

Evenin' That was a wonderful service, very fortunate to be able to view it as it was happening.

Wednesday LSA accompanied me on biz trip to SC Kansas, we listened to the radio on the trip out and back, better than four hours each way. The rain followed us there and partway back, the flint hills glowing green, even without the sun.

There seemed to be something special in that trip, across that landscape, knowing that our 40th President was journeying eastward for his time in Washington DC.

I followed the live threads when I could today, alternating between sadness and hostility, yet keeping centered, about the others apathy or smugness. Most were young, but some were old enough to have been through the 70's and 80's.

What did give me hope was our intern, just 21, is a staunch republican, not many in her age cohort that I've seen there.

We are truly thankful for our former president specifying the state funeral, it seemed it is what our country needed at this time, a history lesson of how one man can change so many things through personal courage and commitment.

You're right about the history lesson. I suspect that there were a great many people that heard some things this week that were news to them. I hope so, anyway.

We can count on the left to stike back with vigor now. With any luck they'll overdo it and show themselves to be the petty parasites that they are.

That's encouraging to hear. I just hope the young generation growing up now finds its Ronald Reagan. Maybe GW can inspire some the way Reagan inspired others.

The left reminds me of a scorpion in the sun stinging itself to death.

I'm even old enough to remember JFK's funeral. I was five.

I was ten and the most astounding thing about that whole week was when I saw Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald LIVE on NBC. It was one of those situations that you see it, but you don't believe that's what you saw.

I experienced the same thing when I saw the plane fly into the second of the Twin Towers. I was seeing it, but I wasn't believing it!

Jr. passed his Spanish exam

Congratulations?
Well, now you know he can do it if he puts his mind to it. Something to hold over his head like the Sword of Damocles!

I've seen that in reruns, but to see it live must've been shocking indeed. I never really had a sense of how that might've felt until 9/11. Since then I've often felt like I must be feeling what people felt during the JFK assassination or the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I found myself wondering if Bill was recognizing the opposite of himself.

I couldn't help thinking how SMALL he and Jimmy Carter look compared to G.H.W. Bush and Dubya!! I got fahklempt when Poppy got choked up during his eulogy.

Congrats on your wedding!! May you have MANY happy years together!

Suziq, well, we were in high school, freshman, :-) at the dawn of the 'third age'. Doesn't seem like all that long ago.

The first moon landing, was working for the Forest Service in Colorado. We drove into town to watch it on the TV at our favorite watering hole.
