Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I was afraid to see Signs from the previews--it was good, though?

It was VEY good! Suspenseful, but also touching in parts of the film.

OK, I'm already here, so here's to funkling!

Gotta go buy a plane ticket! See y'all later today. Gonna have to remember to take some Advil before I watch Reagan's funeral service so I won't have a splitting headache when it's over.

I'm not aware of another firewall. I have McAfee AntiVirus going, but the firewall is not active/installed.

I'm still thinking it's a Comcast problem. But Comcast said it's a Dell problem. Still, they said they'd try to figure out the router issue and call back.

I'm also going to try to contact Tripod/Lycos from the office today.

Thanks for your help. I'll likely have more questions. ;-)

Mornin' East Coast.

Sheesh! Local news just reported the death of a three year old that fell out of a moving vehicle. What kind of brain dead parents don't make sure their child is securely strapped in?

What did the story say? Are you sure the three old didn't unfasten himself?

They didn't give any more details. I suppose it's possible the kid did it. But then I'd have to question how the child got the door or the window open.

Luke couldn't do either of those in the van. And I control the electric locks and windows in the car.

Morning!

Yesterday was really crummy thanks to Microsoft. The briefing was cancelled, so I took the time to upgrade some graphics and do some nice finishing touches on my material. I had text, tables, graphics, and photographs in a nice, tidy word doc. I save regularly. When all was said and done, I quit out, burned a disk. Upon checking the disk, I discovered that all copies of that doc are 'corrupted' and can't be opened. Four days' worth of work. Lost. I'm still seething. Gates should be drawn and quartered.

Disks DO get corrupted without help from Microsoft...

Just playin' devil's advocate. No double meaning intended...

It wasn't the disk. It was the file. I had one on the desktop, copied one to the server and burned a copy to disk. All three fubar.

Of the three OSs I use on a daily basis, Microsoft is the only one that drives me to use unladylike language.

Good morning! Happy Friday!

*sigh* Lookin' like it's going to be another weekend of mad shuffling. The younger siblings have a friend from downstate visiting, and she has to get home late Saturday afternoon. Margaret has her license now, but Dad's a little nervous about her taking much of a long trip yet, at least without another driver in the car just in case. But another friend is playing a concert east of HERE at seven, and Dad thinks at least ONE of us should go. She was Mom's cello teacher and has really made an effort to let us know about music in the area and to be friends with us since Mom's passing, but for the most part we've always been too busy to make it to much.

I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to manage this. Wish Van-sama could fly.

Oh, and Saturday is also Bilbo's birthday, and I don't have a present yet.

Chaos upon chaos.

Good morning!

Last day of VBS (this one, at least). It'll be over at noon, which will be real nice.

Got my car outta the shop. I got it "drivable"...but something is wrong with the a/c and it's going out, he said. Cost a fortune to fix it, so we opted not to.

I'm glad to have the old green van back...my dad's monster red truck is hard to drive! LOL
