Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...That none have seen but we alone.
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

The weather forecasts I heard earlier today said this rain was supposed to be done tonight, if it does the water might go down by tomorrow. Haven't heard an updated forecast though, so I can't say for certain.

That would be good. Our weather forecast came on at 8 since they didn't show the 6 o'clock news. They said rain continuing to the east and south through tomorrow. I've studied it. Decided I'm just going to stick to a more westerly route. Will add about 50 miles to my trip I think.... but that looks like the best choice.

And Tolkien women understand there are much more important things in life than sweeping up.So there's a name for this condition I've had all my life of finding lots of other important things to do rather than sweep up?

I am careful. I know water over the road is nothing to drive through. I would like to live to use these plane tickets I have! :-)

So...wasn't that a nice arrangement of "America the Beautiful" the Air Force choir sang?
In the spirit of crass American commercialism, I hope somebody comes out with a DVD of this...even a multi-disc Reagan retrospective.
One of my favorite VHS tapes I've had for Freakin' ever (OK, since about 1991) is titled "Stand-Up Reagan" and has edits of jokes he told during speeches during the Golden Age (1981-89).
Still pretty emotional about the whole thing. My other grief, that I unfairly spread all over this forum, hasn't helped. Sorry 'bout that.

Your nasty weather started early! Our storms just started coming through around 9pm. Looks like we're gonna get rained on all night.

No worries ExGee...
We're all pretty emotional of late. There's been plenty to be emotional about.
You're very right about that arrangement of America the Beautiful. That group is called "The Singing Sargeants" of the USAF. They were wonderful. I can only imagine what it must have sounded like there in the Capitol Rotunda. Wow. It had to be just fantastic.

Flooding on the San Saba, Colorado, and Pedernales Rivers in the Hill Country... still expecting some rain tonight and tomorrow, but should be tapering off.
Some flooding in Tarrytown here in Austin, and some folks being evacuated due to flooding in southeast Travis county... flooding along Shoal Creek (naturally).
