Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...That none have seen but we alone.
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

My parts from home:
Largest city in the county, Clifton (Norwegian Capital of Texas) is Pop. 3380. I didn't want to live there - too big.
Where Grama lived - Meridian - 1405
Where our official address was but we lived 8.5 miles out of town - Valley Mills - 1075
Where Grama's family is from Morgan 539
The other towns in the county:
Cranfils Gap (also VEY Norwegian): 295
Iredell: 372
Lakeside Village/Kopperl: 188
Walnut Springs: 836
Do ya see why I'm such a redneck hick now? LOL

And yet, my mom
still doesn't understand why I despise it here.
You can't do anything without sitting in traffic.

I think I cried for a couple of days when we moved from Seattle to Kennewick too! I could not believe that he wanted me to settle and live *there!*

Heh...well, he isn't Catholic, so I guess that's enough, right?
But he's attractive. Tall redhead. He's kinda quiet, so I haven't talked to him that much. Seems like a pretty smart guy. He's working his way through school, just got his bachelor's after going back to school (he's about my age), and is working on a masters. Physical therapy.

LOL!! I was amazed the first time I headed Northwest in MA on one of the smaller old highways. I couldn't believe how empty it was!! I'd flown over it and marvelled at the trees, but thought that surely there were plenty of houses underneath em.
There's LOTS of land in Central and Western MA, but unless you're self-employed, it's a LONG commute to work!
The same thing goes for the interior portions of NH, VT, and to some extent, CT. There are some gorgeous areas of NH and VT in the mountains. Great in the summer, lousy in the winter; especially for a Southern gal.

Also, it's too hot there. Though that's a matter of opinion, of course.

I trust you completely, chica. I'm used to crazy drivers where I live, and I know you aren't crazy! I can handle it! :-)
Am I the only one in the Hobbit Hole that lives in metropolis hell?

I am really pushing for Mt. Rainier to go off in a big way. I think it would help with traffic here ;~D

I can absolutely agree with you there. Summers here are brutal.
It's gotten worse since the population explosion, bt that only makes sense. More people in close quarters, more heat!

Hard to get a job good enough to afford much land without living (or at least working) somewhere else...makes me wish I could get a reallllly good telecommuting job. ;-)

My plan is to be really rich so I don't have to work. Or be a novelist.

Or both?
Sure would be nice to win the lottery or something...and then live very frugally in a nice place.

I'll never win the lottery. I had too many advanced math classes and won't spend the money.

Yeah, I've never bought a ticket, so I'd say my chances of winning aren't very good. ;-)

Houston is bad, from what I've heard. Good! I'm not alone then. :-)
That laugh has created some slight unease....
