Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

No luck.

Lotsa leaves like that.

Lotsa flowers like that.

But not on the same plant.

I've got my fingers crossed that it was all just some sort of mistake, and he's OK.

Me too Samwise! I have exchanged emails with Perk several times and really like him. This really tore me up when I got this package back.

No, no word about Perk. Jill said not to worry. She had lots of possible scenarios for the package being returned but also she was going to get Tom to check and make sure.

Thing is, I haven't had an email from him since they were supposed to have been sent forward to Fallujah either. Of course, he may be kinda busy.

I have some friends whose daughter graduated West Point last year, and will be heading to Iraq this summer doing Intelligence work. I bet she'd love one of those knives! I'll get the info on her address from her Mama.

Please get that info. She'd be the first verfied ring-knocker on our list.

Well, I don't suppose that Internet connections are yet a dime a dozen over there. In this case I'm sure that no news is good news.

We're almost ready for y'all to show up. [pant pant]. The emergency replacement of the disintigrated railing is complete. Supplies for the boat are in place. Stereo equipment is tested and ready.

I'm sure there will be plenty of last minute items.

Supplies for the boat are in place.

Which boat?

Ya know, I'm sure you felt you had to do all of this for the weddin'.... but all of us here woulda just been glad to see all of ya'll whether you did anything to the place or not!

The boat we'll be playing with on Saturday will be just the outboard here on the dock. It's good for boatrides and local tours and such. We needed some new lifejackets and such.

I understand about the weddin' werk... but the truth is, that there's been some things that had just never gotten done, and were kindof open sores on the landscape and the house and such. The place has to be presentable, ya'know... it's nice to finally get some of these things done.

But don't look too close... :-)

This house is at best "rustic". It'll never be perfect and spiffy. But I'm OK with that.

I know "rustic" is even too nice a word to describe my old place. But, despite the dilapidated state, it still feels like home to me. *snif* Understand about getting stuff fixed though. One thing nice about being in a "newer" 50 year old house is that there is less of that! LOL

Oh, there would be a lot less to do with this house if I'd quit getting hit by storms!

I'll bet!! How bad was the damage from that last storm? Anything after the broken window? That had to be kinda scary.

Yeah, there were several other minor things. One of 'em is proving a pain for me to fix. Worst thing is that somehow the power outtage messed up my refrigerator. Had a friend get it back working for me but he said I better get a new fridge soon cause his fix won't last long. That is not good news!

Goodnight - past my bedtime already. :-)

LOL! Ring Knocker? Is that what a Service Academy grad is called?

Her family is really neat. Her Dad is an Army vet who served in Vietnam. I haven't seen him for a while, but I HAVE to ask him what he thinks of Jean al Query! He detested x42! Her Mom is a Clinical Psychologist, her older brother graduated from the AF Academy in 2000 and is doing missle stuff in Montana, and her younger brother is at Annapolis and is joining the Marines!

West Point grads are "ring-knockers," Air Force Academy grads are "zoomies," and I never met a Navy Academy grad, or I'd know what they call 'em.

Master Sea-Man, what are Coast Guard Academy grads called?

"Generally Worthless"... "Shark Bait"... hmmm... I'm thinkin' on it...

Actually, I can't recall a particular name for them, though, like most junior officers they are generally regarded with disdain and wariness by experienced enlisted folk. It sometimes takes years to train up a J.O. properly once they get out of the academy. It was, as a matter of fact, one of my favorite pastimes on the bridge.

There were even a couple of them that I remember that ended up being pretty good officers after we got finished with them.

Actually... pretty much all of the Air Force are known as "zoomies". Not just officers.

Just as Navy are "Squids", Army are "grunts", Marines are "Jar-Heads" and such.

Coasties are, well, just pretty much "Coasties". The Navy called us "shallow water navy". The Army called us... well, they never called us 'cuz we didn't give them the number. The Marines... they just called us when they wanted to get a ride to a beach somewhere. :-)
