Zucchini are very easy to grow. I am thinkin' you should figure about a 2'X 2' square for each plant. Maybe larger if you don't want 'em runnin' into each other. And you'll get *lots* of squash from 3 plants.
I also think you will find that your basil will satisfy even your impatience! It germinates easily and grows *fast.* :-) It's one of those things (along with radishes) that is kinda fun to let kids plant because things happen fast with it, and it is prolific.
I am still disgusted with my lack of ability to get sage to grow here. I mean, this is Texas. Sage is supposed to grow wild and overrun the countryside! Never had a problem with it at any other place I lived. And other people here in town don't have problems. There is something *wrong* with my yard!
What's Bouffant Circle precious? :-)
Okay, but you'd meet us for lunch at a trendy elvish diner huh? :-)
I think squash hills need to be about 2 to 3 feet apart
I used to plant 6 - 8 seeds in a circle, 2-3 inches apart and then thin them down to 3 plants in a hill.
Do you know how to put moleskin over your blisters? That helps to walk when you want to... or need to... and have blisters.
I hardly walked last week because of the rain...then this weekend we were busy, and now it's raining again.
So much for getting in shape. I suppose I could do the treadmill, but I haven't for a few weeks. Don't like it if there are other options.
Good morning! I just got up!
Hey, OT...I got the shop fridge moved into the garage now...I spiffed it up and cleaned it out good then filled it up with nearly everything in our kitchen fridge. The only things inthe kitchen fridge now are things we use every day, like the milk and cheese, sandwich meat and stuff... The garage fridge has all our drinks, flour and condiments and such that we don't use all the time.
We ended up putting it to the right of the back garage door...where I thought it wouldn't go because there was no electric outlet...but there was...it was just covered up. I got that area all nice and cleaned up, vacuumed and such. Steve did a great job cleaning up the rest of the garage...it looks a lot better than when you were here! LOL
After you left, Joshua decided to ride circles in the driveway on his bike. I told him "Go ahead" and he rode circles all afternoon and evening while we worked in the garage! LOL Started and stopped all by himself...took a bunch of falls, but none too series.
Glad you made it home all right...do you think pepper would be a good thing to take on an airplane??
And don't worry. All the waiters in DC are "elvish." (at least the ones that aren't illegals...and prolly a good many of them...)
By the way Rosie, when that mint even shows the slightest tendancy of getting out of the place you want it, take a shovel to it generously! Dig deep and get it up because it does send out long, deep, underground shoots. Don't think you're gonna kill it if you dig it out to a very small spot!
I THINK I'd have enough room for that. And starting from seeds would be fine for zucchini, I'd think.
I'm still considering 'maters...but nervous about the whole staking deal. Dunno if I'd get that right.
As for sage...I cheated on that and bought plants, and I'm still hoping they flourish. They're still alive after a week of being outside in the ground...but don't look altogether happy yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
LOL!
I've hauled pepper on the plane. Just put some in a plastic baggie and pack it.
I took crushed red pepper, cominos, basil and garlic powder on the airplane to Entmoot cause I knew I wanted to cook with it and didn't want to buy spices there. I put it in little Ziplocks. No problem.
Right now it lives in a spot away from everything else, so I'm OK with it spreading within that spot. But I'll keep that in mind! Crazy plant...
I told my little sister I'll have to give her some. She's trying to grow a little something in the jungle they call the front yard, but competition is tough...
I think the mint could beat back all competitors.
So it's okay to exercise my shoe fetish there huh? I always seem to want to take too many pairs of shoes everywhere!
Yes, but be careful not to make them jealous.
OK! I'll try to remember to pack it.
OT did make it home with some fresh eggs!
Zucchini germinates easily too. So you're good on that.
I don't stake my maters. I put 'em in cages. I made my cages out of old sheepwire I had laying around. I like them better than stakes. Just put 'em over the plants when they're little and you ain't gotta worry.
I tried everything with sage here. First, I transplanted my plant from home. It died. Nothing else that I dug and transplanted died! Even the rosemary which everyone *told* me wouldn't work has thrived! Then, I planted seeds and last summer I bought a nice healthy plant and planted it again. All 3 of these attempts were in different spots in the yard. I'm bumfuzzled!
I've got a band-aid that's supposed to be specially for blisters. And I'm in sandals today, that gives it a little more room.
I've got all my herbs in pots on the deck, 'cept for the Texas doublemint and lemon balm I planted last year, oh and I set out the catmint.
But I'm either gonna have to transplant them into bigger pots or set them out. I'm just running out of sunny spots.
Yes! I think it will! :-)
Only problem I ever had with mint not growing was that Myranda's dad kept mowing it down. That kilt it. A number of times.
I will have my Hobbit Hole knife! And as everyone knows elf-wimmin are tough enough to fight! :-)
