Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yeah, cleaning the tanks is one part that holds me back. I had a hard enough time just cleaning hamster cages!--used to raise hamsters and I remember what that was like :) I bet a real fishtank (as opposed to the goldfish bowls I'm used to) is an even bigger chore.

Good evening, all... just got home a little while ago. Drove Rose out into the country, saw some nice landscape, then stopped and had dinner. On the way home we stopped and picked up a copy of the ROTK DVD. All in all a pleasant evening!

Along I-89, I saw a big sign that read "Proven Leadership -Bush 2004" VEY cool!
I'll have to keep a lookout for that one you saw. I still have my Bush/Cheney sticker from 2000. It's not dated, so it still works fine!

Well, it looks like I'm making my break with Earthlink. The "live chat" with Pradeep was the last straw. Every one of my questions was answered with a canned macro reply. "It has not been that way since 2001." "So why did it stop working ten minutes ago?" "You are not on an Earthlink portal right now." "That's because I can only stay on for about five minutes, if I even connect at all, and that's at 20kbs."
I'm pretty much paid up with Earthlink for June, but I can use that time to reset all my email references, and stuff like that. I haven't even dialed in to my new ISP yet, but I did start pulling down newsgroups from the one PC here not on the corporate firewall.
I'll be freepmailing folks with my new email address as soon as it looks like this ISP is viable. As a creature of habit, you have no idea how much I loathe making a change after almost 10 years without trouble on Earthlink. But they flushed it all down the toilet tonight.

I'm sorry I missed you on the ping above. And I apologize to others I may have missed.
I found this moving tribute on another tread.

Mornin' folks.
Took Luke to see Shrek 2 last night, then came home and watched themovie. Looks like we're in for thunderstorms all day so we'll prolly cancel/postpone the "fun day" at the pool. May not even open.
Later.

Morning everyone, Happy Memorial Day.
Been down in the Keys a couple days with Jeanne and the kids.
I managed to get up on water skis the other day, first time in about 10 years. I'm sure I looked ridiculous, a 56 year old graybeard being pulled along on a rope, but I'm absurdly proud of myself. OTOH, I can't believe how many different muscles are sore.
It wasn't that way when I was 16!

Good Morning All; woke up to a brisk 53 degrees, front must have gone through, beautiful blue sky, Ol' Glory waving proudly, "God Bless America" on the church carillion while we were walking Gypsy on the north route. LSA has some weeding on tap, I've got some final tillering on the pony bow. Had BBQ last night and brought enough home for a second dinner. BTW, LSA wishes to correct a previous post of mine, it was "soil conditioner" not liquid fertilizer. sigh.
Sam, got to thinking last time I tried that was about 1971 on Lake Powell. Decided then and there that drowning worms was more in tune with my skill set.
Rosie; sounds like a great moot, nice to see the pics.
