The Hobbit Hole IX - A sudden tree or standing stone

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Thanks for posting that, Rose, I've never read it before.

We've been garage sale-ing, and we're going back out. Haven't found anything yet.

Thanks for the Heinlein bio!--that looks very detailed! I bookmarked it and will read it thoroughly a little later.

Howdy howdy all!!

Watched part of ROTK last night cause hubby bought me the dvd...*sigh* I had forgotten how good the hobbit actors are...in particular Billy and Sean and Lij. Pippin, such a sweetie!

I still think Walsh and Boyens screwed up M&P's story line. They really pulled out the sentimental stuff out of the story didnt they? I think that is what may bother a lot of people. Instead of telling a really good story, we get high pitched emotionalism.

Anyway, y'all hve heard me rant this before, so Ill shut up.

Big'ol and I are a funny mix of elf and hobbit. We are snobbish food-lovin' homebodies.

LOL!! I always joke about my hubby (whose nickname is Chief...from childhood) and I, that if we lived in Middle Earth, he'd be an elf because he is alway looking at the stars (he is something of an amateur astronomer) and I would DEFINITELY be a hobbit (Took clan!) because I am more interested in growing herbs and plants. Bah, on the pretty shiny stars that one can't ever touch!

It came as one big piece of hard candy.

ROFTL! - Maybe you can just put it on a table and let people chip at it!

So sorry about the heat.... Sending you some cool shade from the Pacific Northwest.

WN is home and crappy. Got a stomach bug and came home last night. Only thing settling well on the stomach is mint tea. Sips of water make me want to puke. I know TMI.

Steve, I am sorry about the candy. I know if it melted and has all that candy wrapper paper in it then you probably can't salvage it. Am wondering if you'd like me to find some kind of unwrapped hard candy and see if I can put it in some kind of container that you could chip it out of if it all melted together?

Gonna lay back down now. Just got more tea.

Yeah, I seem to remember we came out of the shopping center where Borders was located and the Applebees was across the street. If you're coming from the intersection of 89 and 91, I think the entrance to the Applebee's is on the right.

Evenin' all. The pool is open. We is sunburned. But we had a pretty good opening day. I'm takin' a break, tryin' to convince myself that I don't really need to mow the front yard (even though the neighbors have/are). I'd have Jr. do it, but wife just went to get him. Youth group participated in Jesus day downtown. He'll be dog tired when he comes home.

Speakin' of dog tired, this one never tires of barkin' (he's doin' that right now, just not in this picture).

As per your request, I took some "garden" pictures. Although it don't look it's best, here they are.

This is the back (where the wildflowers washed into the neighbor's yard). The tree line and the trellis is their property. What you have to imagine are the 5 oak trees, two lob lolly pines and the holly tree that were there when we moved in 8 years ago.

Need tuh re-stake the maters.

Non-blooming daylilies....

Bought a "squirrel-proof" bird feeder and some cayenne pepper spray for muh herbs (and thuh chipmunks)....

Back later. It's dinnertime.

I like the garden!

Yawn. I had a long day. Went to garage sales, bought a couple pans for my apartment. Cleaned and vacuumed my car. Did a new lifting routine. That's about it, so why am I so tired?

evenin' all; LSA did some planting and fertilizing; I dug up some more dafodils, found a fella at work that wants some more, whohooo. The snakeskin on the ponybow looks pretty good, good enough I wouldn't lay it on the ground where LSA is working if she had a shovel handy. :-)

Corin; looks good, nice variety and color, dang, your 'maters are twice as big as ours. re: cutting the lawn, there is always the chance you'll cut it too short, ya wouldn't want that. Glad the opening went well, guess your suncreen was at home. :-)

2J & OT - how's the moot?

Wneighbor; whoa, sorry to hear ya got sick, get well quick, there's races to be watched .

Got a couple movies, House of sand and fog, and the Fast Runner. FR is an Iniut made movie with subtitles, got some good reviews in the Prim-Tech groups.

We are pretty well stocked up on goodies for the time, we are winding down with about 4 months left and we are waaaaay over stocked on items such as deodorant, tooth paste, shaving cream , razors, etc... As far as hard candy goes we still have a stock pile that should carry us for a while. The goodies like the honeybuns, and donuts and such come in handy as most of the younger guys (and me sometimes) trade breakfast for an extra hour of sleep. There are some new pics posted on www.photoisland.com I hope you all still have the password, if not then drop me a freepmail and I will set you up. THanks again to you all and enjoy the pics.

Take note of the shirt:)

Good evening! I drove about a million miles today. OK...maybe not quite. But I'm tired. We did the one trip across NH and started off going the wrong way...so that was long. And it was really, really windy...Van-sama is usually pretty OK in the wind compared to some vans, but it was baaaaad today. Kinda weather that knocks trees down and such. Sunny, but freezing. We stopped for a picnic lunch that was less than successful...ended up hunched together trying to hold paper plates down with our elbows...and it wasn't warm at all. Ugh!

But I got a new belt at the LL Bean outlet and we made it back in decent time.

Then I had to drive out AGAIN to pick up the older younger siblings in White River Junction, just over an hour away if you go fast, which I did. So a couple more hours on the road, fighting the wind all the way. I'm beat!

Hm...wonder if driving in wind burns more calories than usual? Maybe there are benefits...

That sounds right to me! So...we'll meet there at five? That sounds about right, doesn't it? If the orientation runs a little late, we can wait outside if we get there before you, so we can all go in together.

Nice garden Corin!!! Tomatoes look great!

Hair, I keep tellin' ya that I am just outside Mordor. 20 miles south it seems. I just didn't know Saruman had gone there too!

Thanks for the get-well wishes OBM. Still kinda under-the-weather. Really ready to feel better now!

I think the proper reply is, no thank you and don't call me Julius.
