Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Well I asked for it--LOL! Thanks for sharing that. I gotta agree with what you say there. I guess I saw it before reading the book, so I just thought the premise of the bug race was a cool idea, and I liked the fx.

Oh, wow--I didn't know Mary Martin was Larry Hagman's mother! On the Peter Pan stage play, I think I must've seen that in the early 80s--was Duncan or Rigby doing it then?

It's never a good idea to ask me for a rant.
I usually oblige.

Verhooven is a pig.Gotta agree with that, from interviews I've seen with him. He seems to be carrying a lot of hate from his experience of WWII, which he channels into left-wing political views--reminds me of Roman Polanski in that way.

I usually oblige.LOL! I made sure to brace myself before asking :) Appreciate your candidness--I wanted to get the hardcore Heinlein fan's opinion on it and I knew you'd be a good person to ask :)

Many times, I like to just sit back and watch her go... ;)

In the 80s, I would guess Sandy Duncan, but that may have been too late for her too. We saw it here in Richmond in 95-96 with Cathy Rigby.

Rose... I am in awe. I need to save this response for the next time someone asks me what's wrong with the movie. I have no hope of ever being the biggest Heinlein geekette in
this Hole.
To the everlasting glory of the infantry...

My best recollection is it was Duncan, but that could just be because I was so used to seeing her on Scooby-Doo and whatever commercials she was doing back then--peanut butter and Tic-Tacs, I think :)

I was trying to find info online that would've said when Sandy Duncan did Peter Pan. But I couldn't. I did find tho that this year she is apparently touring in "The King and I."
I saw that in New York with Yul Brenner in the 70s. It was vey cool.

Thanks, Jen! I'm flattered!
Don't worry ... you'll be just as much a geekette as me after 40 years of being a fan of The Man.
I'm not letting myself get up and go get the book Starship Troopers, not even for reference, because I know I'd wind up reading it yet again. And that is the beauty of Heinlein; you can read him over and over and over, and find fresh meat on the bones.
I think I'll take Time Enough For Love with me on the plane ... or Number Of The Beast.
